Spark is a venture-backed startup that after raising the largest seed investment round in Colorado state history is on track to redefine the nature of the outdoor cooking space. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our 25 person (and growing) company and lead the Software team. The ideal candidate is an experienced Individual Contributor who has experience and interest in management and work plan development. 

We’re looking for someone product-oriented who wants to write great code, as well as a candidate that will shape the future of our technical stack and product offering. While much of our pre-launch product development focus has been to create the perfect hardware solution, we are now looking to cultivate our App and Website capabilities and are excited about the endless potential therein. This is a role that will grow with our team and tech offering and would report directly to our head of product.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead our small yet growing team of engineers to help us build the software team as we scale.
• Deliver the technical solutions needed to realize the ultimate customer experience.
  • Continue and lead development of our React Native App, focusing on Back End tasks.
  • Work with cloud functions to produce scalable databases/APIs. We use a serverless architecture.
  • Extend and improve our architecture to seamlessly integrate across our Shopify Plus online store, our React-Native mobile App, and a variety of 3rd party solutions that plug into those platforms.
  • Integrate different pieces of our architecture for a cohesive experience while preserving modularity and interoperability between in-house and 3rd party systems.
  • Focus on our backend systems, but navigate up and across the stack when necessary.
• Work collaboratively on a cross-functional team. Help prioritize and solve problems across functional areas. Pitch in outside your specialty when needed to help the team succeed.
  • Collaborate with our design team to ensure that designs are efficient and implementable, while maintaining a delightful user experience.
  • Interface with the support team to ensure that we are prioritizing customer pain-points and focusing on delivering customer delight.
  • Coordinate with our product team to balance limited resources against tight timelines and a high bar to focus our approach on what’s most important.
  • Work with our firmware team to define where hardware/software needs to mesh seamlessly across the user experience.
• Help us inspire people to cook outside more.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least five years of technical experience working on full-stack software, ideally with a consumer focus. 
• Experience managing software engineers.
• Advanced understanding of modern Javascript frameworks.
• Significant experience designing architecture. 
• Experience with Node.js and NoSQL Databases.
• Direct experience building and integrating full-stack software solutions.
• Enthusiasm for working cross-functionally with designers, marketers, support, ops, and other engineers. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with IOT and hardware a plus.
