As the Principal Engineer/Technical Lead, you will be responsible for driving sprints with strategic vision. You are a natural born leader with a continued learning mindset, so you love to find ways to bring new technology and code languages to the table to drive a more efficient project. You are someone who loves to thoughtfully make an impact every day and over the long-term while also guiding others to do the same. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

  • Act as an owner and expert on large sections of our codebase, infrastructure, and operations
  • Shape the software architecture of Maxwell’s product suite, ship multiple large services, complex libraries, or major pieces of infrastructure
  • Look for opportunities to contribute to Maxwell’s strategic projects and experiment with new technologies in areas of curiosity - we love to stay up-to-date on trends! 
  • Consistently reduce the complexity of projects, services, and processes in order to work smarter and not harder
  • Responsible for setting the short to medium-term strategic technical direction and lead the team to success in new domains and technologies
  • Listen and guide debates to help reach a consensus then clearly communicate and back that decision to the larger group

IDEALLY YOU'LL HAVE...

  • A proven track record of creating high impact improvements in stability, performance, and scalability across major business-critical systems
  • Visionary mindset with strategic direction - able to look ahead 6-12 months and identify areas of need and create plans to improve them. 
  • Natural curiosity - constantly seeking to improve the mastery of your craft within Software Engineering
  • Prior experience working in a product-led startup is highly valued - you know how to move quickly, manage your time efficiently and successfully manage competing priorities
  • Teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a transparent, authentic culture
  • Bonus points for experience working with B2B2C software, fintech or mortgage technology, and operational teams

  • Backend: Ruby on Rails (Rails 5.x)
  • Frontend: React, Redux, Javascript, SLIM, SCSS, HTML 5, CSS 3
  • Databases/Datastores: Postgres, Redis, Memcache
  • Infrastructure: Heroku, AWS, Cloudflare, Lambdas, SQS, and more.
  • Domains: APIs, Microservice Architecture, Monitoring/Telemetry, Scaled Architectures

Compensation Range: $163K-$178K
