Manager II Engineering - Mission Data Processing
This position is responsible for the leadership, strategic alignment, and management of the Mission Data Processing (MDP) Section area of the Payload Systems organization. It is a key department within the Payload Systems organization and reports directly to the Payload Systems manager. The MDP Lead is responsible for management of people, processes, tools, and placement of MDP personnel to aid in the execution of programs.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the Mission Data Processing function with a high degree of technical capability and leadership competence.
- Provide vision and thought leadership to develop Ball Aerospace's MDP competency.
- Lead and engage MDP analysis personnel in activities to provide consistency and guidance across the enterprise.
- Engage in Strategic Business Unit (SBU) activities to identify necessary skills and tools to execute programs.
- Proactively engage programs to prevent/address issues.
- Coordinate with Training Lead to identify and implement training strategies.
- Provide part-time, direct support to programs or new business activities on an as needed basis.
- Functional Management Duties:
- Plan, organize and communicate company information to analysis department personnel.
- Weekly timecard signing for respective area.
- Provide second-level guidance on department related questions such as charging guidance, department support, etc.
- Organize, suggest, write and approve promotions for analysis personnel.
- Recommend and approve analysis area employees for recognition (certificates of appreciation (COA), spot bonus, excellence awards, etc.).
- Approve Training, Service Requests for Analysis area employees (phones, computer equipment, etc.).
- Performance Planning and Assessment for analysis area group leads.
- Coordinate with Dept. Management to recommend personnel staffing assignments.
- Actively engage in hiring and onboarding as needed.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field is required plus 12 or more years of related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance required.
- Ability to develop long-term strategies for the team that incorporate multiple business objectives.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering best practices.
- Program Management experience including scheduling, planning, and budgeting activities.
- Functional Management experience including staffing, strategizing, resource authority, and budget activities.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate vision and effectively coordinate efforts amongst disparate business units and geographically disperse teams.
- Experience with algorithms-to-software implementation and embedded software applications.
- Systems-level and System-of-Systems understanding of algorithm "kill chain" and its incorporation into sensing payloads is preferred.
- Previous experience with commercial and tactical systems for ground, airborne, and spaceborne sensing applications.
- Demonstrated understanding of electro-optics platforms and detector production, spectral and spatiotemporal phenomenology, single- and multi-sensor applications, image formation and processing, object tracking and target classification, modeling and simulation, scene generation and data truthing, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
- Demonstrated competence in the following areas: Organizational Agility, Strategic Agility, Decision Quality, Developing Direct Reports & Others, Conflict Management, Managerial, Hiring & Staffing, and Motivating Others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $152,500 - $210,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
- Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
