Executive Director, Software Engineering - Lumere
Executive Director of Software Engineering - Lumere GHX Executive Directors are responsible for the overall development, operations, and leadership of software engineering teams in support of a core GHX product. They serve as a technical counterpart to the business unit's General Manager (GM). They are responsible for the outcomes the team generates through work quality, work cadence, engineering excellence, process excellence, and continuous improvement. They embody the company's values, are excellent communicators, lead from the front, and galvanize teams to action. This role is responsible for GHX's solutions supporting medical device evaluation & standardization for hospitals, Lumere. Lumere empowers physicians and health systems to make evidence-based decisions that reduce costly, unwarranted variation in clinical products. Lumere's application provides health systems with the evidence and analytics they need to make better decisions and ultimately improve patient care. Lumere business unit's engineering team is highly innovative and committed to craftsmanship – we work in a continuous deployment environment and iterate quickly to receive customer feedback. We measure ourselves through outcomes and partner closely with Product Management under the model of Marty Cagan/SVPG. Our engineering teams appreciate the time to code, avoid unnecessary meetings and process for process' sake. We are seeking an engineering leader, who in addition to managing a high performance engineering organization, will lead manage budgets, staffing, recruiting, corporate and business unit initiatives, and OKRs (Objectives & Key Results). To be successful in this role, you must be able to balance advocating for the needs of the business unit while advancing corporate objectives. For example, you'll need to carefully manage how offshore engineering is introduced and integrated with the Lumere BU's broader engineering team. You should have a passion for evangelizing engineering best practices to influence GHX innovation holistically. This role reports to the SVP of Engineering for GHX, with dotted-line reporting to the GM of the Lumere business unit. You will partner with the GM of the business unit and serve as a member of the Lumere Leadership Team to steer the direction of the business unit. But, of course, your most important partner will be the Executive Director of Product Management whom you'll work with hand-in-hand to ensure that our customers continue to love our products. Responsibilities
- Manage Lumere business unit engineering teams including Engineering Managers, Development Operations, Quality Assurance, Data Visualization/Data Engineering/Data Analysts
- Focus on administrative duties so the teams can do their best work
- Evangelize customer-centric engineering culture. Partner with Product Management and align technology organization's objectives with the product outcomes/objectives
- Lead cross-functionally across GHX and Lumere business unit stakeholders: product management, sales, operations and support in pursuit of quarterly and annual OKRs (Objectives & Key Results)
- Attract, recruit and retain excellent talent in partnership with talent acquisition team
- Maintain the excellent cycle time velocity, deployment, and stability of Lumere's application. Strike the right balance in maintaining our relatively low technical debt
- Have prescience about technology trends that will affect GHX and Lumere; empower the team to adopt new technologies and approaches. Lead the team in setting direction for technical architecture and adopting enterprise architecture
- Effectively develop leaders and team members. Conduct regular one-on-ones with direct reports to provide clear goals, success criteria, provide constructive feedback, and engender open communication. Mentor and help in career development of managers and individual contributors
Qualifications & Desired Experience
- 7+ years of leadership experience leading software development managers and multiple teams of software engineers.
- Experience working with global teams spanning time zones (ideally India)
- Deep knowledge of web development stacks and Dev Ops (Python/DJango, AWS, PostgreSQL/RDS, Kubernetes, CI/CD processes preferred)
- Experience working in an Agile (Kanban) and customer-centric development environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including cross-functionally and presenting to an executive audience
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and conflict management skills such as formalizing agreements, active listening, and mediating, especially in uncertain and ambiguous situations
- Advanced problem-solving skills, ability to frame open ended problems, and mobilize teams to implement solutions
- Executive presence in interactions with senior leadership including the GHX executive leadership team
- Experience working in both large and small companies. The ideal candidate would be savvy at navigating a large organization but passionate about working within a startup & growth company culture
Estimated Salary range for this position: $168,000-$197,600The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the GHX's salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. The base salary is one component of GHX's total compensation package for employees.
