Your Impact:

Handshake is hiring an Engineering Manager reporting to the Director of Engineering, on the Skills team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build the future of skills-based hiring. You will manage an amazing group of full-stack software engineers that will work directly on features that will help learners to build, demonstrate, and get hired based on their Skills.

Your Role

  • Build, lead and develop successfully a team of full-stack software engineers from all levels; defining their career development plans, setting specific goals, and motivating them to achieve results as part of their growth

  • Successfully manage performance; mentoring and coaching software engineers, supporting both high and underperforming individuals

  • Partner closely with key stakeholders across Handshake, including Design, Product Management, and strategic business partners

  • Participate in technical decisions and provide technical coaching, helping tech leads to define and prioritize engineering roadmap

  • Lead with empathy as you help us nurture a culture of growth, inclusion, and belonging

Your Experience:

  • Proven track record leading and managing teams of 4-6 high-output full-stack engineers

  • Background in software engineering and experience with web application platforms

  • The ability to understand the team’s technical challenges and architecture is the key to success.

  • Working cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineering managers

  • Ability to successfully communicate across multiple teams and multiple functions in a hybrid work environment.

  • Excellent people management skills, focusing on supporting empowerment

  • Understanding of agile methodologies

  • Product-focused mindset

  • Passion for helping teams and individuals grow, and for building an inclusive culture and diverse team

  • Values ownership and innovation as part of their role.

Compensation Range:

  • $182,750 - $225,000

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
