What We’re Looking For

The Director role is designed to oversee and be responsible for whole design and development teams, projects, and client relationships throughout the full development lifecycle. The Director also assists in Devetry’s business development efforts, scoping and architecting new projects, resourcing, and hiring. The Director will work closely with Devetry’s managing partners to ensure all daily operations for projects are running smoothly as well as keeping a pulse on the happiness of our clients, stakeholders, and Devetry team members.

The ideal candidate is someone who started their career as a “maker” in engineering. This candidate decided they wanted to be more “client facing”, and has maybe in the past filled roles such as: Director of Engineering, Sales Engineering, and developed expertise in building digital products. We’re looking for a candidate who can bring legitimate value, expertise for building software products, and is a great listener. 

This is not a role for an internal focused engineering manager. This is not a role for a consultant that has never been a “maker” themselves.

Here are some of the roles & responsibilities that make up a day of a Devetry Director:

• Projects
  • Oversee design and development teams
  • Manage and ‘own’ the software design and development process from inception to completion
  • Work with our tech leads & business analysts to make sure they feel supported
  • Attend regular project meetings to understand how your projects are progressing
• Clients
  • Own the ultimate success of client engagements
  • Set appropriate context & expectations with both our clients & team members
  • Balance individual client/project needs against overall business priorities
• Our Team
  • Conduct 1x1s and directly manage team members
  • Support designers, developers, and business analysts in their projects, and career growth within Devetry
  • Handle client or employee escalations as needed
• Business and Leadership
  • Be a leader within Devetry
  • Respond to inbound leads, understand how we might help clients & close new business
  • Work with our internal operations team to determine the right resourcing for projects
  • Help our team members, and be an example of Devetry’s core values

About You

• You started your career as a “maker” then grew into a client facing role
• You have helped scope, design, or architect full scale production solutions for digital products
• You like to actively listen, with a high degree of empathy & patience
• You have actively managed a small team of engineers and/or designers and are comfortable with the hiring and management process
• You’re comfortable asking clients for additional business if we can genuinely help
• You are a warm personality that is positive & upbeat
• You have a yes attitude and can figure things out with limited hand-holding
• You love to plan but don’t mind getting thrown a curveball
• You have leadership abilities with a strategic mind to help make projects successful, clients happy, and grow our team members

Compensation & Benefits

• For this role, the compensation range is from $140-175k annually, based on a 40-hour workweek.
