Creative Director

Invitae is a leader in medical genetics whose mission is to bring genetic information into mainstream medical care to help billions of people. We’re looking for a seasoned, strategic design leader and visual storyteller who is ready to use their expertise to help people understand why understanding your genes is crucial for taking care of your health. We’re mission-driven, fast-paced, and eager to have a new teammate with these skills and attributes join us:

• 10+ years experience leading and growing an internal or agency creative team of designers, writers and project managers capable of a wide cross-section of deliverables from web design to product collateral to trade show booths.
• Experience helping ensure brand visual identity & approach across a wide array of executions, from campaign creative to web to collateral across both external and internal audiences
• Superior visual design skills that yields work that translates a customer insight into a compelling visual design that inspires action
• Experience using visual storytelling to turn complicated information into compelling, relevant and engaging customer experiences for multiple audiences
• Able to serve a player-coach on a small team in delivering high-quality work at a fast pace
• Fluent in relevant design and website tools
• Enjoys working with a cross-functional team and translating business needs into compelling creative solutions
• Experience providing creative leadership for external agency creative partners
• Understands the value of constant communication and collaboration with the ability to engage with multiple types of stakeholders to intake and translate business requests to design direction and oversee implementation
• Brings a sense of humility about working in service of our customers alongside confidence in creative expertise and decision-making

Once you’re here, you’ll help us by:

• Helping grow and train an internal creative team of designers and writers, including team development, staffing and resourcing agency/freelance resources as needed
• Working with brand and marketing leads to continue to refine brand identity, look & feel
• Collaborating closely with product teams on design decisions to ensure a consistent experience
• Leading the team in both producing work and creating self-serve tools that enable cross-functional teams to bring forward a consistent Invitae look, feel and experience
• Serving as the senior design leader advising external agency partners on creative work
• Assessing and evolving brand guidelines, design systems, illustration and photography libraries
