The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.
Database Administrator II - Oracle
We are seeking a Database Administrator II specializing in Oracle to join our database team. The Database Administrator II will be expected to team with peers, internal customers, and management to strengthen the consistency, performance, efficiency and standardization of SQL databases in our IT infrastructure services environment to achieve operational excellence and program success. While this position is an individual contributor role, collaboration and strong technical knowledge and skills will be essential attributes.
What You'll Do:

  • Actively participate on and contribute to IT operations and maintenance teams to ensure stable and efficient Oracle database performance.
  • Participate on and contribute to IT project teams to plan and execute on tasks related to the requirements, installation, and operation of the Oracle database platform as they result to overall IT project implementation.
  • Promote proactive collaboration with project team members to solve problems effectively and constructively. Also work collaboratively and positively with other ITS organization to move projects from the test to the production environment.
  • Actively demonstrate teamwork and a positive attitude towards teammates and other colleagues.
  • Install and upgrade new releases of Oracle software.
  • Perform routine activities, such as adding, modifying and deleting user accounts and profiles/permissions.
  • Maintain primary backups for all Oracle databases.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems.
  • Define and maintain databases, views, tables, attributes, indices and stored procedures.
  • Implement project plans, maintain documentation records, and review installation guides as appropriate.
  • Adhere to established department processes and procedures and assist teammates in ensuring successful deployments to production.
  • Refresh test databases from production as needed.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's in Information Technology or a related technical field plus 5 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to achieve the desired outcome in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and project management/project coordination skills.
  • Expertise in planning, configuring, maintaining, patching and monitoring Oracle databases and instances on both Linux and Windows servers.
  • Knowledge of shell scripting, ETL, Oracle middleware, Tomcat, TNS, cloud technology, RMAN, Cron.
  • Superb documentation skills, organization skills, and ability to interact with team members cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency with shell scripting and execution preferred.
  • General understanding of data protection concepts to support changing environments.
  • Preferred skills:
    • Oracle 10g - 19c.
    • Experience Oracle Enterprise Manager13c.
    • Experience shell scripting, Linux OS and Windows servers.
    • Experience Oracle's RMAN application.
    • Experience with Supporting both large and small database instances.
    • Experience with specialized network environments (air gapped, limited access).
    • Microsoft SQL Server experience.
    • PostgreSQL experience.


Flexible On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three or more days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $91,500 - $124,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
