The Role

As our Managing Editor, you will play an important role in managing the day-to-day content operations for SimplePractice, including the Pollen Blog and clinician resources. You will work with our Editor-in-Chief to assign, edit, manage, and publish accurate, authoritative, and SEO optimized content for an audience of clinicians and mental health professionals. You will manage a team of freelancers who include clinicians, SEO writers, and health journalists and oversee their contracts and payment process – along with tracking and managing the editorial planning and production process in Asana. You will use analytics and SEO principles to prioritize and inform editorial decisions. 

Responsibilities 

  • Play a key role in expanding and growing the reach and visibility of SimplePractice’s clinician resources, mental health industry, business, and thought leadership content to increase awareness and engagement among key clinician audience segments
  • Oversee freelance writer programs, including sourcing, relationship building, assigning work, and managing contracts and payment process
  • Plan, manage, and update the content calendar for the quarter ahead and year ahead in Asana
  • Edit all content to ensure SEO-optimization, accuracy, voice, and alignment with business goals
  • Stay up-to-date on—and strategically leverage—SEO, online content and social media trends, and creative content formats, and identify rising topics of interest among the clinician audience
  • Fact-check and ensure trustworthy and accurate sourcing in all content, including citations of mental health research and studies
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Brand, PR, Creative, SEO/Analytics/Growth and our Content, Community, and Social Media leads to align on content projects that address the themes most important to our business
  • Measure and report on content performance in Google Analytics and Tableau to understand audience interest and engagement in key topics and to determine the types of content that perform best and help achieve important business goals
  • Work with Lifecycle and Social teams to support content distribution; draft newsletter copy and headlines
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee webinar schedule of live video content conversations attended by SimplePractice clinicians and others
  • Interact with freelance writers to provide feedback on their work, manage contracts and ensure payment
  • Recruit freelance writers, thought leaders, and expert reviewers through the SimplePractice clinician online community
  • Support editing and content development for Monarch by SimplePractice (meetmonarch.com) articles and FAQs, or other content channels as needed

Desired Skills & Experience 

  • 5+ years of related experience, with minimum of 3+ online editorial management for a large-scale website
  • Strong online writing and storytelling skills, with demonstrated examples / portfolio
  • Proven track record creating, editing, and publishing impactful content 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Thorough understanding of the rules of grammar and punctuation, along with proofreading skills (grammar, spelling, and style) 
  • Familiarity with AP Style and/or Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience using and overseeing online content management systems and project management tools (i.e. WordPress, Contentful, Asana)
  • Knowledge and experience of utilizing content analytics dashboards and or platforms, such as Google Analytics, Parse.ly or Tableau, to measure content impact and discover insights in order to make data-informed content decisions
  • Experience leveraging SEO and keyword planning tools such as SEMRush, Ahrefs, Moz, and/or Google Keyword Planner
  • Demonstrated understanding of a full-funnel approach to content marketing, and the role that content can play across the customer journey
  • Preferred: Health and wellness experience 
  • Preferred: Awareness and experience in running live streaming video events and/or webinars 
  • Preferred: Familiarity with reading and interpreting health studies
