As the Associate Director of the Ordering Platform team, you will be responsible for Invitae’s mission-critical ordering systems. Thousands of patients and providers use these systems daily to access Invitae’s testing capabilities and find answers to their most pressing health questions. Invitae’s business depends on these systems operating securely, reliably, and efficiently to ensure our patients get accurate results in a timely manner.

In this role, you will be instrumental in unlocking new opportunities for the business by delivering a robust ordering platform which makes it easy to compose Invitae’s core capabilities into dynamic, reusable workflows that can be tailored to the unique needs of our customers. This is a major company initiative which is critical for us to realize our mission of improving healthcare for billions of people. 

What you will do:

  • Work on a high-visibility team and help deliver on Invitae’s ordering platform strategy
  • Collaborate with the product team and other stakeholders to identify and deliver better customer outcomes
  • Support the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical quality, reliability, and ease-of-use
  • Lead and manage processes to help the team do its best work and engage effectively with stakeholders
  • Coach and develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
  • Review code, troubleshoot production issues, and identify corrective actions to prevent them from recurring
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives that help improve operational efficiency and reduce outages

What you bring:

  • A minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience. 
  • At least 4 years of experience managing teams that built and operated business critical systems.
  • At least 10 years of experience building and operating full stack applications
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills that enable you to make and commit to hard decisions
  • Excellent communication skills that adapt to the needs of the audience
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with a high degree of autonomy
  • Desire to drive operational excellence by continuously improving monitoring, observability, and tooling
  • Technical acumen to create clarity around architectural and strategic decisions
  • Experience leading fully remote, geographically distributed engineering teams
  • Experience with running software applications in the cloud (AWS)
  • Experience with Kubernetes / Kafka / Docker / Terraform is a big plus
  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, Kotlin or equivalent languages

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. $164,800$206,000 USD
