Why this opportunity?

Optera is growing faster than ever and we are rapidly expanding our market leading product and services. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the VP of Finance, the ideal candidate should have a strong background in SaaS accounting and be knowledgeable in applying the revenue recognition standard, ASC 606. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of the financial accounting process and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the company's financial statements. The role and responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP and ASC 606 standards
  • Customer billing and collection
  • Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Perform revenue recognition analysis, including determining appropriate revenue recognition methods and identifying potential revenue recognition issues
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies and procedures
  • Manage AP (including employee expense reimbursement) process confirming invoices and making payments
  • Reconcile banking transactions and conduct transfers and wires
  • Collaborate with People Operations team to process bi-monthly payroll 
  • Collaborate with VP of Operations and VP of Finance to continually improve month close process and financial reporting
  • Assist with local tax reporting and collaborate with tax accounting firm to ensure they have all necessary documentation and information 
  • Improve current accounting processes to streamline systems and prepare the company for further growth, potentially including selecting and implementing a SaaS-specific accounting platform

Your qualities

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Empathetic communicator comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels of a company
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to think strategically about process improvements
  • Enjoy the dynamic environment of a growing startup

Your experience/qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable experience
  • Years of experience in SaaS accounting, including revenue recognition under ASC 606
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 standards
  • Experience with accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or NetSuite
  • Experience with revenue tracking software, such as Maxio, Rev Pro, or SAAS Optics

Nice to have

  • Experience with combined SaaS and service based revenue
  • Sales tax accounting, collection and payment experience
  • Experience with working in a remote or hybrid environment

Base Salary (US employees): $80,000 - $95,000 plus bonus
