With over 11 million app downloads, Denver-based healthcare tech company iTriage is doing something right. Via its iOS and Android apps, and web-based service, iTriage helps people answer the two most common medical questions: “What could be wrong?” and “Where should I go for treatment?”

Using the app you can search thousands of medical symptoms, diseases, conditions, procedures, medications and drugs. From there it will give you information on the nearest hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent cares, retail clinics, pharmacies, physicians, doctors, imaging centers, mental health clinics, substance abuse clinics, and community health centers. It will even display average wait times for select hospital emergency rooms and urgent care facilities.

There’s a lot of healthcare waste in America these days and companies like iTriage that connect the dots and improve efficiency stand to profit a lot. As a testament to its effectiveness, after more than 78,000 votes in Google Play, the app has a 4.5 star rating. In 2013, iTriage hosted more than 40 million sessions – which is about equal to helping someone with medical questions every second of every day.

iTriage has a number of fitness and health benefits that match its health focus well. Employees get $2,000 annually towards personal training and coaching, $200 towards race fees annually, and monthly chair massages. Employees also get a $5,000 tuition reimbursement and the company gives eight hours off every quarter for employees to work on volunteer intiatives. Naturally, iTriage also has more traditional perks like ping pong tournaments, bake-offs and an onsite gym.

iTriage has over 100 employees and is continuing to hire. The company is looking for several developers as well as business operations and UX people.

Envysion is a new twist on the classic security camera system.  Envysion’s cloud-based platform allows large companies to manage and watch their security camera’s without large staffs or VHS tapes and DVDs. Even though the whole system is web-based, it is compatible with most legacy cameras allowing businesses to just plug and play on their old technology.

Envysion has a number of tagging and searching features that make business surveillance a lot more efficient. For example, if something suspicious is caught on video a user can clip that section of the video, tag it with categories like “Investigate” and “Violation” and forward it to appropriate people for review. Envysion also has motion search capabilities, which means part of a recorded video frame can be highlighted and anytime motion happens within the designated frame, the software will build a clip around that moment, allowing you to see what happened at specific points on the recording.

Envysion is popular in the restaurant industry because those businesses are vulnerable to theft from employees that are constantly handling cash. Chipotle uses Envysion to manage security at its 1,350 locations and for its more than 30,000 employees. It manages security for all those employees and locations despite having a loss prevention team of just five people.

Envysion is a hiring for a variety of positions including engineering, sales and customer service positions.

LogRhythm is a Boulder, CO-based cyber-threat detection company, and if you’ve glanced at the news lately you’ll know why that’s a big deal. The company has a series of complex cyberthreat detection technologies like log management, network forensics, host forensics and advanced security analytics that alert their customers to potential breaches. In light of that sophistication, the company claims to be the largest and fastest growing independent security intelligence company in the world. It has raised $76 million in funds, including a $40 million round this past July.

The company’s perks are not too shabby either. Recruiting manager for LogRhythm Marty Vespa said: “We have all the cultural nuggets that you’ll find at your typical technology company like Free Food Friday, Ping Pong tournaments, Logtoberfest, on site Yoga and Massages.”

Plus, the difficulty of tracking down cyber-threats means LogRhythm has built a close-knit team. “The complexity of the solution creates a truly collaborative organization. Everybody requires the support of several others to be able to do their job,” said Vespa.

Everyday we make lots of little healthcare decisions. Those decisions add up whether we like it or not. Datu Health wants to change the sum of our choices into something more positive by using data to encourage better behavior.

Kevin Dodson, SVP of Datu, told Built in Colorado in a previous interview that he worried about the disconnect between diagnosis and treatment. He witnessed a man being diagnosed with diabetes – a life-threatening but treatable chronic disease – and saw the doctor reach over the bed, grab a pamphlet and hand it to the patient. He knew what would happen next; the patient would go home, google diabetes, find thousands of articles on the topic and most likely be very scared. Without a trusted advisor telling him how to control his disease, the patient is left “hungry for the health system to provide them guidance,” said Dodson.

Datu’s clients are large healthcare systems; they collaborate to develop a platform that when connected with patients will provide health guidance. The system gives patient content and context about a diagnosis, social integration into existing communities and a place to integrate personally collected data with clinical information. Often drawing information from self-tracking devices like cell phones or smart watches, Datu’s platform can help doctors advise patients in real time.

For doctor and patient, this provides real-time information on the patient’s health status. This allows the doctor and system to send specific recommendations to patienst via push notifications on their phone.

Datu Health is looking to hire developers, software engineers and product managers.

SportsLabs is not your typical startup story. Though this company is headquartered in Boulder, it actually started out inside Silver Chalice Ventures, the venture arm of the Chicago White Sox.

True to its sports team founders SportsLabs is all about live sports. The idea behind the startup is to use ever-cheapening live streaming technology to live broadcast all sorts of niche sports. While live sports broadcast used to be the focus of just large broadcasters like CBS and ESPN, now smaller sports with avid fan bases can watch competition live.

Content providers that use SportsLabs include the ACC and Mountain West Conferences, Raycom and more than 60 colleges and universities, including the University of Notre Dame. The company currently manages 15,000 live video & audio sporting events from over 40,000 live feeds and serves more than 3 billion ad impressions. Fans can also track scores and stats via SportsLabs.

“We recently received feedback from parents who were able to watch their daughter play a tennis match at Notre Dame,” said senior vice president Nancy Beaton in a previous interview. “That was not possible before.”

SportsLab is looking to hire several software developers and a technical program manager.
