Job Duties and Responsibilities
The VP, Device Engineering is responsible for facilitating the successful integration of first of a kind devices/chipsets/modems/modules and their features onto Dish's first of a kind mobility cloud-native RAN/CORE implementations for Dish's 5G Enterprise, Wholesale, MNO/MNVO, and roaming efforts.
DISH's vision for its 5G SA network is to utilize O-RAN and cloud-native core technologies operating on a distributed flexible compute platform. The VP, Device Engineering will be responsible for ensuring that device, chipset, and network features come together in support of this vision, with verified performance against quality assurance metrics.
Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with key stakeholder colleagues from device technology, roadmap, product management, and network technology planning and engineering teams to continuously deliver ongoing successful Interoperability Development Testing (IODT), Interoperability Testing (IOT), Field Interoperability (FIT), and subsequent integrations all with an ownership mentality for longer term strategic objectives.
  • Ensure the Device/Network organization consistently delivers Technical Acceptance (TA's) to device OEMs with timeliness and quality.
  • Directly collaborate on a continuous basis with your peers of Network and Systems Development to manage hands-on technical work on escalated device/network quality engineering matters, and to refer major hardware and/or software issues or defective product issues to vendors and manage to resolution. As a team, own with one voice, associated executive communications on such matters.
  • Collaborate and guide the key industry partners such as OEMs, chipset vendors, NW vendors, and test equipment vendors to drive and enhance the environment, process, tools, and plans with the goal of establishing the most efficient and effective system and the most trusted relationships.
  • Attract, lead, grow, and retain a world-class team of talented device-network technology managers, lab and test engineers, and subject matter experts.
  • Recruit and train employees, develop personal growth opportunities, provide leadership for employee relations, effectively communicate job expectations, and develop, coordinate and enforce systems and policies.
  • Manage teams supporting and/or implementing multi-functional and/or multi-locational projects and/or systems.
  • Motivate and manage staff to accomplish important objectives and multiple demands, creating a sense of urgency in all tasks.
  • Hold teams accountable for their deliverables and ensure that projects are delivered by agreed upon timelines.
  • Lead your teams to define, document and manage scope, expectations, implementation approach, deliverables and validation and verification acceptance criteria.
  • Regularly interact across functional areas with senior management and executives to ensure expected outcomes and objectives are met.
  • With automation always top of mind, develop systems and tools for effective task execution by your teams.
  • Evaluate, implement, manage, and continuously improve device & network engineering operation processes and procedures, in accordance with the standards and procedures set out by the organization.


Skills, Experience and Requirements
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science or related degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience working directly with all major wireless mobile device OEMs, chipset providers and RAN/CORE vendors in bringing commercial devices and networks to market.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP & GSMA standards and associated 4G/5G Radio Access Networking technologies. Proficiency with 4G/5G device services (e.g. IMS/SMS/RCS/eUICC/SIM/OTA-DM/VoLTE/VoNR/VoWiFi/e911/RTT/CMAS) and associated device chipset and core networking architectures and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on said services and technologies in the design, implementation and operation of laboratory and field test validation and verification environments.
  • Demonstrated skills and a passion for mentorship, relationship building, collaboration and team development.
  • A creator of clear and highly-visible shared understandings at both the executive and engineering levels.
  • Experience in a high-availability, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service focus and experience working with operations.
  • Proven problem-solving skills; verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Successful track record as both a leader and a manager.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization through conventional methods (verbal and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with technical and non-technical teams.
  • This position requires working with a computer (keyboard/mouse), telephone, and portable devices.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.


Salary Ranges
Compensation: $175,000.00/Year - $225,000.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
