Summary
DigitalGlobe has an immediate opening within the Geospatial Cloud Services organization in Westminster, Colorado. The UX-UI Designer/Software Engineer will be responsible for creating UX/UI designs that please our customers and stakeholders as well as contributing to the overall UI codebase. Individual will work as part of an existing scrum team and participate in all team ceremonies.
Responsibilities
- Research, evaluate, design, develop, implement, and improve state-of-the-art software in collaboration with a team of software developers, software testers, system engineers, DBA’s, IT and network personnel.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team and articulate technical concepts and ideas effectively.
- Ensure sound software development process that is heavily test and user driven.
- Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers
- Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
- Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets
- Build page navigation buttons and search fields
- Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like
- Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
- Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
- Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
- Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
- Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors and images
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years demonstrated experience with web and/or geospatial programming, design, and development
- Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role
- Development experience with front end technologies, including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Development experience with open-source geospatial software (e.g. GDAL/OGR, GeoServer, PostGIS, OpenLayers, Leaflet, OGC, etc)
- Experience working as a software developer in an Agile environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Desired degrees: Geography, Geographic information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Design, or a related field.
- Knowledge of multi-tier, heterogeneous architectures and how they typically fit together
- Understanding of what it takes to keep a high-availability software platform healthy
- Tremendous Organization and Communication skills
- Experienced with and within Scrum, Kanban, and/or XP teams
- Knowledge of sound Agile Engineering Practices (TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration, etc.)
- Experience with cloud-enabled web services a plus
