BACKBONE - Technical Writer

Do you have a passion for writing, understand software product development, and are extremely detail oriented?  

We’re looking for a talented technical writer to help us document feature releases of our product development software. This role would work collaboratively with Product, Engineering, Client Success and Marketing in our Boulder office to produce engaging, impactful, and usable documentation of our software. If you enjoy writing technical documents that can be used for a diverse range of users, we’d love to hear from you.

ON ANY GIVEN DAY YOU COULD FIND YOURSELF DOING THE FOLLOWING:

  • Gather, analyze, and translate technical information, composing it into clear, comprehensible documents such as product requirements and release notes to be used by technical and non-technical personnel

  • Participate in Agile development processes based on product and team needs

  • Research and document product information and functionality by referencing written material, attending standup meetings, and interviewing product managers, user experience designers, and subject matter experts

  • Conduct research to ensure the use of proper technical terminology; apply fundamental technical concepts, processes, practices, and procedures to assignments

  • Incorporate controlled vocabulary, configuration management, and standard naming conventions

  • Assist in providing topic-based and context-sensitive information in the existing online product knowledge base, using our established writing style and standards

  • Leverage engineering and project management tools such as JIRA to understand issues and develop an output

  • Regularly review documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness; make updates and revise as needed

  • Develop documentation templates and adhere to style guides

  • Dive deep into product functionality in order to understand documented features

  • Grasp and explain software features using screen captures and other visual cues to improve user understanding and product adoption

  • Edit and publish screen graphics to enhance documentation

  • Work with the programming, product, and marketing teams to continually improve technical writing standards, processes, and documentation

  • Gather usability feedback from clients, product managers, and staff

  • Technical video production a major plus


YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • You have 2+ years experience producing technical documentation for a SaaS product

  • You have experience writing API reference documentation is a plus

  • You geek out about technology and love learning about new things

  • You can quickly identify customer pain points and have a consistent desire to do whatever it takes to fix them

  • You possess a passion for grammar and punctuation

  • You appreciate being part of a fast-paced, constantly iterative, and agile environment

  • You have a relentless passion for creating industry-leading products and the highest quality customer experience

  • You have a meticulous eye for attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy

  • You are self-motivated and do or achieve something because of your enthusiasm or interest, without needing pressure from others

  • You are focused and goal driven

  • You are collaborative and possess a keen ability to support cross-functional projects and decisions
