R&D Engineer, Senior or Staff (Mechanical)

Job Summary

The Senior or Staff R&D Engineer performs research, design and development activities for a specific product or group of products from product ideation through manufacturing. Provides technical leadership and consulting to one or more projects in the development of disposable and reusable complex surgical products

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

·         Product development and design of electro-mechanical medical devices and sub systems

·         Conducts product testing, creates models, and prototypes, and provides constructive feedback to design engineers

·         Develop and execute engineering testing plans/protocols, test development, testing, analysis of data, and reporting

·         Performs clinical and preclinical assessments

·         Collaborates with peers to manage the development of appropriate testing to verify product meets internal and external customer requirements.

·         Provides strategic vision.  Assignments are often self-initiated.

·         Work on highly complex technical problems and provide solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious to a broad range of problems.

·         Trains and mentor others in specialized areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Proficiency with Solidworks with experience with GD&T and general dimensioning best practices.

·         Good understanding of mechanics, machine design and materials.

·         Rigorous academic background in engineering fundamentals.

·         Experience working with cross-functional teams including transition of a design to manufacturing.

·         Proficiency with product development processes from concept to production.

Education/Experience Required

·         Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Master’s Degree preferred.

·         Minimum 5 years professional hands-on mechanical design experience.

·         Minimum 3 years of experience in medical device industry (Class II or III devices).
