Product Designers at Uplight see no boundary between form and function. They are multi-skilled, proactive communicators who develop a deep-understanding of the problem space. They help drive measurable energy savings with a relentless focus on the end user.

You’ll design products that reach millions of people and have an impact on creating a more sustainable future. Our products span the digital and non-digital ecosystems: mobile, web and email, print. You’ll design elegant, simple, and impactful experiences that help people find energy-saving programs for them, their homes, and their businesses. 

Leading up to launches, you’ll support our implementation team to onboard large scale clients on new products through the application of their brands standards to our white label product offering. Along the way, you’ll be able to problem-solve through finding opportunities to create efficiency in day-to-day processes. Additionally, you’ll work closely with other Product Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers to concept, design, prototype, test, and iterate products until they exceed our standards of quality and measurably help people meet their energy-savings goals.. 

 Climate change is one of the biggest systemic problems humanity has ever faced. To tackle it, you need to be eager to solve problems and have proven ability to create cohesive experiences based on research, testing and sound design principles.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Be a strong advocate for end users in the product line from building a deep understanding of users and their needs on individual products and features
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business goals into unique product experiences
  • Be the point-person between Product Design and the Orchestrated Energy (OE) product line team mates across disciplines
  • Organize and facilitate workshops to understand problems, gain requirements and or alignment on projects or features
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually to internal stakeholders and to clients 
  • Weigh business goals and level of effort into the mix when choosing approaches
  • Represent UX perspectives and advise Sales, Product Marketing, and Product team members as they form upcoming strategic utility client deals, especially for connecting multiple Uplight apps together into a unified customer journey
  • Plan and scope work with OE product line, co-creating a roadmap of future OE commitments and strategic projects
  • Identify and outline design activities (discovery, creation, validation) that need to be accomplished and coordinated to deliver a high quality solution – and ensure internal processes support each step
  • Define the user experience, interactions, and user interface through user flows, information architecture, wireframes, and visual design
  • Leveraging the Uplight UI Design System, create simple, elegant, data-driven, user-centric experiences that delight users
  • Build functional prototypes to validate and test designs, leading user research efforts
  • Look for opportunities to solve problems in unique and innovative ways
  • Help maintain visual and brand consistency between all products and outlets

 What you bring to Uplight

  • Experience
    • 7–10 years of related experience

    • A curiosity and openness to learning about emerging energy-saving technologies, such as smart thermostats, electric vehicle chargers, water heaters, and more 
  • Skill Sets
    • Maintain the organization’s vision by serving as interdisciplinary liaison between teammates across Product, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Implementation and Product Marketing. 
    • Build productive working relationships with key internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, serves as a credible outward and client-facing resource. 
    • An attitude ‘in service of your audience’ and finding ways to understand their needs and validate solutions in service of those needs.
    • An ability to think beyond the pixels and design for the whole experience or service.
    • Experience with making complex services easily digestible for an audience.
    • Demonstrate commitment to Uplight core values and Design team principles; a leader-by-example. 
    • Proactively sets context where possible and prioritizes space to support team members. 
    • Ability to negotiate trade-off decisions.
    • Clear understanding and advocacy for an iterative, people-first design process
    • Ability to collaborate and facilitate alignment across varying stakeholder groups 
    • A substantial understanding of multiple design offerings, wide-ranging experiences, uses professional methods and company objectives to resolve complex issues in efficient and effective ways.
    • Consistently work on complex design projects requiring independent action and high degree of initiative to resolve issues. 
    • Provide immediate supervision and mentorship to one or a few team members, by assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals, and maintaining schedules. 
    • Experience working in a Agile and/or SaaS distributed work environments with some background in Scrum/Kanban basic practices
    • Clear communication across verbal, written, live and asynchronous channels.

Tools our design team uses:

  • Figma (primary tool for design and prototypes), Sketch, Adobe suite (primarily Illustrator and InDesign), Miro, Filestage, Usertesting.com, Respondent, Invision, Google Drive suite, Slack, JIRA, Asana, Zeroheight, among others.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience applying and translating client brand guidelines and the ability to leverage an existing Design System
  • Worked on white-label projects for multiple clients, from concept to implementation
  • Experience with ADA WCAG accessibility standards and certification processes
  • Participated in or led a Google Design Sprint
  • A background in Product or Project Management, or Scrum Master training, that complements your Design background

 Salary Range: $110,000 to $120,000

Our Boulder office has plenty of nearby restaurants, bars and hotels for our visiting employees, as well as in office employees to enjoy. We have on-site parking, and when you enjoy a walk near the office - you can take in the views of the Beautiful Boulder FlatIron Mountains nearby - Enjoy!
