About the Role

As the Director of Product Design, you will lead an outstanding team of product designers in craft, process, and design strategy to create products and experiences that our clients love and value. This includes managing and growing the appropriate Product Design team and working cross-functionally with Engineering, Marketing, Account Management, and other teams to launch beautiful and functionally designed products.  You will work directly with both prospective and existing orthodontic practices to develop, deliver, and improve our solution.  This is a leadership role within the product organization, and will report directly to the VP of Product.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Champion Design:  Enthusiastically help your team hone their craft of product design.  Encourage sharing of new techniques and tools, showcase best of breed experiences in the market, invest in professional development, and provide regularly and timely critique of new designs.  

  • Grow & Manage People:  Identify, hire, and engage talented, customer-centric team members.  Provide regular, frequent, constructive, and direct feedback to help employees excel in their job and their craft, navigate their desired career path.  Conduct design retrospectives to constantly learn and improve your team.

  • Motivate:  Set challenging team goals and demonstrate persistence and motivation to achieve high levels of success.

  • Plan & Prioritize:  Coach your team on how to best navigate a rigorous, customer-informed process to identify and prioritize customer problems and rapidly validate solutions.  

  • Customer Advocacy:  Be a passionately vocal advocate for the OrthoFi customer through all stages of research, design, development and go-to-market activities.

  • Quality:  Uphold and evolve OrthoFi’s brand and style guide.  Maintain an extremely high bar for quality and consistency.

  • Communicate & Connect: Be arm-in-arm with your Product Management and Engineering peers in order to share learnings, align priorities, and identify opportunities for improvements to process or people.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 8-10 years in a user experience, product design, or a related field; 4+ years of experience as a people manager.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HCI, Human Factors, Information Management, Design, Psychology, or Anthropology.  An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of a degree.

  • Previous experience within a SaaS or technology-enabled service company.

  • First-hand experience in applying research methodologies such as user interviews, usability testing, card sorting, and journey mapping.

  • Experience establishing, managing and scaling product design resources, processes, tools, and the organization of data for optimal sharing and efficiency.

  • Polished facilitator and communicator who is able to lead meetings with clear purpose, agenda, roles, responsibilities, and action items.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in HCI, Human Factors, Information Management, Design, Psychology, or Anthropology is preferred.

  • Experience in the healthcare service and/or technology industry.

This position will include a competitive salary and benefits, and may be eligible to earn stock options based on individual contribution and company performance. Compensation commensurate with experience.
