The Western Union Foundation is a charitable entity with a mission to connect underserved youth to economic opportunity. After 20 years of impact, we continue to deliver on our mission with Opportunity Beyond Borders, focused on empowering forcibly displaced and marginalized youth with the training and education needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven global economy. The Foundation also provides funding for humanitarian efforts for communities in crisis and disaster, one key reason for forced migration. To date, we have funded more than $145 million for projects and scholarships.

We will look to you to provide a high level of leadership and communications expertise to amplify our philanthropic initiatives across the globe. You will connect Western Union customers, partners, employees and stakeholders to the mission of the Foundation. You will partner closely with the executive director to set and communicate our 2030 philanthropic strategy and communicate our annual impact reporting. You will develop communications content, manage events and awards submissions, plan speaking engagements and develop campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders including marketing and corporate communications.

To be considered for this role, we are highly interested in candidates with leadership experience within the corporate communications or consumer marketing domain, including marketing campaign experience, media relations, executive communications, internal communications and storytelling.

This type of role will typically require 10 or more years’ experience, 2 or more of which should be at a leadership level (managing employees is not required).

In this role you will partner closely with the executive director to set and communicate our 2030 philanthropic strategy. Set the communications strategy including the calendar, channels, content and campaigns – this includes the social impact delivered through NGOs and Western Union partners, employee engagement and volunteering, and disaster relief. Coordinate with WU communication channel owners (social, PR/media, blog, etc.) and refresh and manage WUF owned channels (WU Life, website, etc.) Set and measure key communications KPIs to grow the volume, reach and positive sentiment of communications.

You will set strategy for speaking engagements and annual nonprofit awards. Create a test and learn strategy for fundraising campaigns to engage stakeholders (potentially including consumers) to donate to the foundation and/or directly to NGOs through 3rd party donation vendors. Develop compelling content to share the work of the foundation to communicate the impact of the Foundation and its activities. Explore media grant opportunities or other opportunities that the Foundation can leverage, in partnership with social media. In collaboration with corporate communications and Marketing develop campaigns to share philanthropic programs with stakeholders .

This role has a high execution focus, and the successful candidate will require knowledge and experience in all facets of paid, owned and earned media for nonprofits. The role will be the point of contact for the Foundation with Global Brand, Social, CRM, Loyalty and Creative Excellence and Corporate communications teams, as well as key external nonprofit partners.

Annual base salary gross: $81,813-144,116. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the Western Union salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. The base salary is one component of Western Union’s total compensation package for employees.
