About the job:

As a Hardware Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for designing, sourcing, developing, and testing hardware components and systems. These include wireless-connected cameras, solar panels, mounts, and components. You will be responsible for managing projects, allocating resources, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality hardware solutions. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, and quality assurance professionals, to drive innovation and meet business objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of the complete hardware development life cycle, from concept through product definition, sourcing, development, production, and sustainment.
  • Manage the hardware engineering contractors and OEM/ODM vendors.
  • Estimate resource requirements, create development timelines, set priorities for individual contributors, and communicate progress to senior management.
  • Assist senior management in setting Engineering’s strategic direction.
  • Identify new technologies to enhance department productivity, streamline development, and improve future product capabilities.
  • Evaluate and propose solutions to system-level problems involving hardware.
  • Estimate resource requirements and completion dates.
  • Review the work of other engineers to verify that it meets acceptable standards.
  • Provide technical support to the production group to facilitate product shipments and address product sustainment issues.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications (e.g., FCC, CE, RoHS, cellular). Coordinate with the executive team to facilitate certification processes.
  • Provide technical support to customers when they experience problems exceeding the capabilities of the customer service department.
  • Collaborate and support other departments and customers as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in hardware engineering, with a track record of successfully leading hardware development projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in hardware design, including analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and signal integrity analysis.
  • Expertise in camera systems and cellular communications is desirable.
  • Proficiency in hardware design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro).
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing engineering team.
  • Solid understanding of project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum, JIRA).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes for hardware products.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
