The Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for performing individual internal audit projects, as part of the internal audit plan. This responsibility includes developing internal audit scope, performing internal audit procedures, and preparing internal audit reports reflecting the results of the work performed. The internal audit work at times could have SOX or risk specific emphasis.

Work performed will include coverage of functional and operating units, focusing on financial, IT and operational processes. Additionally, the Senior Internal Auditor performs follow-up on the status of outstanding internal audit issues. The Senior Internal Auditor will also assist Internal Audit management with periodic reporting to the Audit Committee, development of the annual internal audit plan, and championing internal control and corporate governance concepts throughout the business. The Senior Internal Auditor may often direct and review the work performed by other internal audit personnel, including resources from the co-sourcing firm.

What You’ll Do

  • Understanding of internal control concepts and experience in applying them to plan, perform, manage and report on the evaluation of various business processes/areas/functions.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited required direction and guidance, and provide appropriate direction to other internal audit project team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to effectively present to peers and management.
  • Exhibit the leadership skills needed to sell ideas and obtain management buy-in for constructive change.
  • Understanding of internal auditing standards, COSO and risk assessment practices.
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of accounting, financial reporting and IT auditing.
  • Experience in performing multiple projects and working with varying team members.
  • Responsible for auditing company compliance with applicable government contract accounting requirements.
  • Manage and perform routine internal audits to ensure compliance with applicable government regulations and company policies, including developing internal audit scope, performing internal audit procedures, supervising co-sourced staff, preparing internal audit reports reflecting the results of the work performed, and follow-up on audit findings
  • Manage and perform other internal control related audits such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Ethics & Compliance, etc.
  • Participate in developing and updating the risk assessment and quarterly audit plan.
  • Support preparation and update of departmental policies, procedures, audit methodology.  
  • Support research of critical and emerging issues and risks.  
  • Assist in due diligence activities as required.

About You

  • B.S. / B.A. degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required
  • CPA or CIA designation a plus
  • 3-5+ years of public accounting experience with Big 4
  • 2-3 years  private industry experience with knowledge of accounting, finance and internal control areas
  • Experience with Netsuite is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of audit scoping, engagement planning and audit testing techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principals and internal control framework.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and present the findings in a simple manner.
  • Ability to apply sound business and audit judgment in making recommendations to management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written/oral communication skills.
  • Solid supervisory skills, including supervision of external resources.
  • Sound attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Understanding of the business environment.
  • Exhibits a service/customer oriented mentality.
