Revenue Recognition Accountant

Simple Energy is an early stage Boulder, CO-based venture-backed SaaS Software and eCommerce company. We are also a Certified B-Corp and a graduate of the TechStars accelerator program. We work with electric and gas utilities to help motivate and enable customers to save energy via targeted motivational messaging and its instant-rebate eCommerce platform. To date, we’ve raised over $10mm from leading Silicon Valley and Boulder VCs and angel investors; we currently have 55+ employees.

The Revenue Recognition Accountant will be responsible for all accounts receivable activity, including billing and collections, as well as all revenue reporting. This role will be working cross functionally, specifically with the Client Engagement team.

The Rev Rec Accountant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performing all revenue calculations on a contract by contract basis, including allocations of revenue within a multiple element arrangement
• Tracking of all customer contracts
• Creating best practices with the quote-to-invoice process and systems
• Performing related month-end activities
• Working with the FP&A function to help properly forecast revenues
• Reviewing all customer contracts for revenue impacts
• Informing management of possible revenue impacts from existing and incoming customer contracts
• Assist with annual audit processes, including revenue memos
• Creating and tracking all customer billings
• Processing all customer payments
• Completing all customer collections activity
• Assisting with additional analysis and accounting tasks as needed

Other requirements & preferred items

• Bachelor degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a major in accounting or related field
• 1 - 3 year’s experience working with GAAP revenue recognition rules (ASC605) and specifically with multiple element arrangements
• Deep understanding of all GAAP guidelines and interpretive guidance around revenue recognition
• Preferred: CPA certificate or license
• Preferred: working knowledge of NetSuite
• You have excellent attention to detail
• You are an excel super-user
• You are a ferocious multi-tasker and can pivot appropriately
