Maxar Technologies has an immediate opening for a Manager of Technical Accounting. This individual will report to the Senior Director of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting and will interface with personnel at various levels of the Company, as well as external auditors. Primary responsibilities include accounting research, drafting accounting policies and memos, and providing technical support to members of finance and business unit leadership.
Responsibilities
- Review new contracts and assess the accounting implications based on existing accounting standards, interpretations or regulations
- Research, evaluate and document technical accounting implications of complex or non-standard transactions (e.g., M&A, hedge accounting)
- Communicate with various internal groups to gather relevant information for decision making related to proper accounting treatment for significant transactions
- Build strong relationships with finance business partners and other business unit leaders to ensure accounting issues are identified timely
- Write technical memos supporting significant accounting positions
- Maintain accounting policies manual and assist in updating or developing new policies to ensure consistency and compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards
- Coordinate with FP&A to ensure forecast is appropriately tracking to expected accounting treatment
- Coordinate audit review of technical accounting matters
- Preparation of quarterly filings, including financial statements and MD&A
- Assist investor relations, legal and HR departments with quarterly earnings process and the annual proxy statement
- Participate in month-end and year-end close processes, as needed, including assisting with internal and external audits and review
- Review of monthly stock compensation entries and associated reconciliations
- Perform special projects or duties as required within the finance department
- Supervise work of others
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or a related field
- 6+ years of relevant accounting experience that includes financial reporting and complex technical accounting or revenue recognition issues; 2+ years of public accounting experience
- CPA
- Previous experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles under US GAAP and the ability to research technical issues
- Experience with Sarbanes Oxley and SEC reporting
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
- Proactive with an aptitude for process improvement
- High degree of accuracy and efficiency with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Ability to work well in a team and with people in other functions
- Analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- US Citizen or permanent resident required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with OneStream/Hyperion
