This is an awesome opportunity to help Outrider define, build, and lead autonomous yard operations, a new and exciting product category in logistics automation. We're the beneficiaries of two important and exciting macro trends whose importance is hard to overstate: robotic automation and sustainable, green transportation. Both will shape the future of how goods get to store shelves and doorsteps, and Outrider will have a key role in driving this transformation in the near future. Customer traction and market validation has been uniquely strong for a young company in this space. This role, specifically, is part of the command center for company operations, where you'll help direct the accounting and financial operations/strategy that directly supports our financial health, fundraising capabilities, profitability, and cash position.


The Assistant Controller position reports to the Controller and supports the management of accounting, auditing and budgeting within the organization. This position assists with preparations for audits and works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances. The ideal candidate has strong accounting, management skills, and attention to detail, and has a keen ability to learn in unstructured environments.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Manage and improve upon accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, and payroll processing functions
  • Administer the sales tax & property tax reporting functions
  • Generate journal entries and perform month-end closing processes
  • Perform fixed asset, general ledger, and credit card reconciliations
  • Ensure the company's financial statements are prepared in compliance with US GAAP requirements
  • Prepare ACH, wire transfer, and other payments for approval
  • Administer the company's web-based expense reporting system
  • Help to define, select, and implement an ERP business & accounting system for the company
  • Define and develop an inventory and cost tracking system in consultation with Engineering and Operations personnel
  • Work with the company’s payroll and benefits provider to ensure the timely and accurate set up, processing, recording, and payment of payroll and related benefits; provide benefits administration support
  • Create reports, analyses, and forecasts to support management, banking, and other stakeholder requirements
  • Contribute generally to the growth and success of the Company and the building of a vibrant culture focused on the responsible deployment of zero-emission autonomous vehicle technology
  • While this is an accurate reflection of the position, Outrider reserves the right to require additional/different tasks to be performed as needed

Required qualifications

  • Education, Experience, Training, KSA’s (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • BS or BA in accounting or finance
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Immediately apparent high energy and stamina, with a can-do, get-it-done attitude
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing successful financial controls processes Clear, thoughtful, and detail-aware written and spoken communication
  • Exceptional financial, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems, Excel, and other desktop & cloud-based business software
  • Prior supervisory experience and/or evidently strong team-building potential

Ideal qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-tech, manufacturing company or start-up
  • Enthusiasm about and interest in robotics and autonomous vehicles

Compensation & benefits
