This executive will lead an engineering team of approximately 350 people, and be responsible for successfully delivering some of the most strategic products of NetApp’s business today. This person will also be responsible for partnering with NetApp’s Executive Leadership Team and key customers to shape NetApp’s future architectural strategy.

Job Requirements

Desired Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cutting-edge teams in a fast, challenging and exciting culture.
  • Proven record of demonstrating strong strategic, business and investment skills.
  • Experience managing a large, multi-disciplinary, multi-geography team responsible for executing NetApp’s technology vision and delivering an extensive and world-class systems portfolio, linked with the corporate engineering center.
  • Experience managing the complexities of running a systems organization, ideally in storage or related data-center technologies (e.g., development needs, competitive and market gap analysis, life-cycle management, hardware/software cadence, etc).
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate with product development, marketing and sales organizations across a large enterprise.
  • Hardware and software systems experience, ideally in Storage and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI).
  • Experience in Agile methodologies. Scaled Agile (SAFe) experience is a bonus.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead the day-to-day operations for an entire engineering organization, with an instinctive ability to think and act strategically.
  • Build, lead, empower and inspire a world-class group of employees while overcoming the challenges associated with rapid growth in a competitive market.
  • Provide timely information to appropriate senior executives while becoming a trusted advisor on industry trends and issues.
  • Contribute heavily to decisions on industry/operational issues surrounding technical investments.
  • Be an exemplar of the organization at the highest levels to prospective partners and customers.
  • Play a key role in enhancing the company’s reputation as an exceptional organization with a compelling product offering.
  • Be a visionary who can effectively embrace new, innovative ideas and persuasively articulate NetApp’s vision, mission, value proposition and go-to-market strategy.

Other Important Skills:

Execution/Results Oriented:

  • The candidate will have a clear track record of leading successful, results-oriented systems development organizations. Evidence of this orientation will include notable product successes in the marketplace, demonstrating calculated risk and ability to foster engineering innovation, resulting in the delivery of key product releases within challenging timeframes.

Team-Building Skills:

  • The candidate will possess a leadership style that focuses on developing great teams, while motivating and leading people to achieve stretch goals and challenges in the context of complexity and ambiguity. These leadership traits will be evidenced in the quality of prior teams that the individual built (e.g. strong recognition for prior achievements, high level of team motivation, team members with notable success in their own careers.) The candidate will need to lead a team with a start-up mentality and help maintain culture while balancing full integration into the larger NetApp.

Collaboration Skills:

The candidate’s operating style will be characterized by an emphasis on collaboration and working through other internal and external organizations and individuals to achieve success, particularly in the context of a complex and global organization. Evidence of these skills will include examples of business and product success that required coordinating numerous parties for which the individual did not have direct control and had to lead through influence and gaining buy-in.
