We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to help manage our world-class SaaS email delivery infrastructure. You will be part of a team that ensures the reliability and performance of a large and diverse data storage stack. You will directly engage with development teams to provide data-relevant advice and feedback, and serve as an information conduit back to other Ops team members.
Additionally, you will continually improve the velocity of our deployment pipeline through automation and monitoring of data storage systems.
What You’ll Do

- Take personal responsibility for the availability and reliability of our world-class service
- Use Chef to automate configuration of SendGrid’s data storage infrastructure
- Identify key system metrics and ensure adequate monitoring coverage for new and existing data storage services
- Author tools that reliably manage data storage infrastructure. We're looking for someone to write clean, testable, reusable code
- Pair with delivery teams to develop new services, and design data storage schemas optimized for scalability, testability, supportability and maintainability
- Evaluate and analyze new technology and software for feasibility, impact, and viability
- Work with other teams to troubleshoot/determine resolution for complex issues across team domains
- Drive improvements in the quality of your team's work output
- Provide technical coaching and mentorship
- Build relationships across all functional domains within the department and within our broader community

About You

- Expert with MySQL
- Proficient in a unix shell environment
- Proficient across a diverse set of technologies - we’re looking for people with breadth in at least one of the following areas: NoSQL (Riak, Cassandra, ElasticSearch, HBase, Redis, etc.), linux system administration, TCP/IP, filesystems and filesystem tuning, configuration management, scripting and automation, or monitoring and instrumentation
- You can perform 'guerrilla capacity planning' for internet service architectures
- You align your actions and personal development with longer-term department goals, and can help define a vision of what may be possible
- You can design an entire system from scratch, end-to-end, that can fit into the SendGrid architecture
- 7+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education
