NetApp | SolidFire is looking for an experienced Software Engineer in Test who is passionate about testing and testability and uses that knowledge to develop innovative automated testing solutions for the services our Automation Infrastructure team provides. These services support the software development process of the Solidfire products.  This is a high ­visibility role to ensure the services we deliver are of high quality and stability. 

As a Software Engineer in Test on our team you will work as part of a dynamic and fun team responsible for participating in the development, testing, debugging and support of the engineering organization.   As part of the Automation Infrastructure team, the overall focus of the group is on supporting the software engineering teams by delivering quality, stable, scalable, and maintainable services.  While your focus will be on looking at integration and system level testing, you will also be expected to contribute to the software development, as well as developing key metrics of these services. This position requires an individual to be creative, a quick learner, driven to produce results, and demonstrates the ability to lead small projects, teams, and be independently driven.

Job Requirements

Experience writing and executing complex system level test plans, test cases and test reports

Experience developing complex test automation, scripts and/or automation frameworks, and virtualization.

Experience programming in Python and experience with docker, REST, json-rpc.

Experience developing with Linux, and any other OS is a plus

Track record of being a key contributor in successful projects

Strong oral and written communication skills are essential

Works both independently and collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high-quality standards

Possesses sufficient technical knowledge and experience to pick up new expertise quickly with guidance from a technical leader

Strong aptitude for learning new technologies

A strong understanding of complex concepts related to computer architecture, data structures and programming practices

Ability to estimate work completion required to build an overall predictable plan

Follow standard engineering principles and practices

Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems

Self-­ driven, with a strong quality and development background and familiarity with test automation

Responsibility and Interaction

Responsibility:

  • Responsible for non-routine and unstructured tasks, requiring creative solutions with more interdependencies and with processes that are less defined 
  • This individual works on complex problems with partially defined, larger scope
  • May work with teams across the company in problem solving and design efforts
  • This individual will begin to develop a technical specialty

  • Work independently
  • Successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position
  • Participate as a proactive contributor and subject matter expert on team projects
  • Demonstrated ability to have successfully completed multiple, moderately complex technical tasks

 

Essential Functions:

  • Drive test effort from planning and organization to execution and delivery
  • Participate in developing effective test strategies and test plans
  • Aid in the design and develop reliable, scalable and maintainable test automation to validate complex storage features
  • Communicate and collaborate with the engineering teams to develop automation processes and plans 
  • Diagnose, debug and perform root­ cause analysis of issues and defects

Education

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
