Job Summary:

The Software Development Manager is dedicated to equipping our development teams for making exceptional software through owning the development process, removing obstacles, providing timely feedback, and finding opportunities to advance individuals.

A successful Software Development Manager facilitates good communication within the engineering department and with adjacent departments.  They are quick to respond to customers and other internal needs.  Lastly they are skilled at building and maintaining strong teams. 

As a key member of Engineering team leadership, this person will need to be in tune with all activity within the Engineering group and adjacent departments in order to help advance work to deliver great features to our customers.  This person should have a passion for training, coaching and developing people to achieve their goals and continue to grow in their skills and career,  encouraging individual initiative and fostering a high level of accountability. Does not suppress, ignore, or deny conflicts on the team, but effectively works through them to optimize outcomes. Provides frequent feedback. Is an agile leader within the organization, helping to shape and improve development team processes and engineering team culture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and ongoing leadership for a team of 6-10  individual developers building new features or enhancements
  • Provide people-care management for developers, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development
  • Grow your team members careers and foster their engagement
  • Support your team by holding regular one on ones, giving context on priorities, collaborating with other teams, unblocking projects and resolving conflicts.
  • Communicate project status and escalate issues to direct managers, product managers and Engineering Leadership.
  • Work with your engineering manager peers to continuously improve engineering team and processes 
  • Help to prioritize and coordinate the team’s work alongside your product management and design peers.
  • Attract, hire, and retain the best talent to fit our department and business needs
  • Build on and improve the existing engaging work culture 

Required Skills/Experience: 

  • 2+ years software development industry experience, preferably with leadership or management role
  • Past experience with defining development process, best practices, and managing project teams
  • Proficiency communicating verbally and in written form, both one on one and in a group setting
  • Significant experience working in Agile, Scrum, Kanban or similar incremental, team based methodology.
  • Success in coaching and mentoring others to achieve maximum impact
  • Achieves cohesive, effective team spirit with others. Treats others fairly and respectfully. Shares credit. Exhibits dynamism, excitement, and a positive attitude. Encourages others to do the same, discourages cynicism
  • Reaches out to peers. Approachable. Leads peers to do what is best for the company. Constantly benchmarks best practices & expects others to do the same. Leaves a current role better than when started
  • Pushes decision making down to the accountable parties. Provides leadership & resources for the team

THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN COLORADO SPRINGS, CO

Salary range $85/K - $105/K (DOE)
