Senior Systems Engineer

A unique opportunity exists at Youtopia® for a self-starter with a growth mindset to join our start-up where innovation is valued. We need a Senior Systems Engineer to establish and grow our cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure for scalable, high-impact apps for customers and internal teams. Such an engineer would have an additional opportunity into senior management, if so desired.

As our Senior Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Establish, improve, and maintain cloud infrastructure for apps that are making material impact on our world for millions of users
  • Manage secure networks, both public and private, across multiple entities
  • Establish proactive monitoring and alerting for high availability
  • Proactively monitor infrastructure for potential problems and perform steps to mitigate them
  • Evaluate and deploy Azure Resource Manager templates
  • Work with database administrators to ensure target RPO and RTO
  • Work with developers and DevOps to ensure delivery of apps and services
  • Work with users to determine business requirements and meet them
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform upgrades and improvements related to applicable systems
  • Conduct research on emerging products and standards related to systems
  • Liaise with vendors and partners for efficient implementation of system products and resolution of any issues
  • Create and update technical documentation, including logical and physical diagrams
  • Help establish and adopt best practices, including system upgrade and maintenance procedures
  • Adhere and help improve information security policies
  • Participate in on-call support schedule
  • Mentor less senior team members

What you bring to the table:

  • Mastery in secure, scalable, and observable infrastructure for distributed apps and systems
  • Natural problem solving with ability to manage complexity via simplification, abstraction, etc.
  • Affinity toward reliable systems that minimize disruptions and on-call support needs
  • Effective collaboration; great communication is key to any project
  • Constant curiosity; constantly learning and evolving
  • Comfort in wearing multiple hats, juggling multiple projects, and coordinating with existing dev team, DevOps, product managers, and stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years Microsoft Azure administration
  • Experience setting up, configuring, and supporting internal and external networks
  • Experience setting up, configuring, and using proactive monitoring and alerting tools and frameworks like Zabbix, Prometheus, or Nagios
  • Experience maintaining and upgrading systems with no or minimal disruption
  • Experience troubleshooting various issues, including functional, access, and performance
  • Ability to improve and adapt to rapidly evolving infrastructure
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certification(s): AZ-104/AZ-103 (AZ-100/AZ-101), AZ-500, AZ-300/AZ-301
  • Experience supporting Terraform and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience supporting CI/CD with automation platform
  • Familiarity with scripting using Bash, Python, etc.
  • Familiarity with Git or similar version control system
  • Experience working in startup environment
