About the team

At brightwheel, our infrastructure handles 10s of millions of requests every day. Any one of these requests might detail a parent staying connected to their child, a teacher running their classroom or the owner of a preschool managing their business. Needless to say, each one of these requests matters to us. A lot.

As an engineer on the platform team, you will build and scale our infrastructure while helping build new product features that improve the lives of our teachers, directors and parents. Our stack is comprised of Rails, RDS Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq and others running on a finely-tuned kubernetes cluster in AWS. We believe in using battle-hardened pragmatic technologies that are right for the job.

What you’ll do

• • Work alongside product and design to scope and spec products and features
  • Design, write, test, deploy, and high-quality code
  • Tackle scalability, security, and performance initiatives. You'll work with other engineers to ensure that the platform is a solid foundation to continue building on
  • Help better our code quality and development environment with improvements to engineering processes and tools
  • Help shape a collaborative team culture by sharing knowledge and expertise across the team

What we’re looking for

• • 4+ years of professional experience, preferably in dynamic companies/teams
  • Expertise in one or more application programming languages (eg. Ruby, JavaScript or Python)
  • Experience with web application frameworks (eg. Rails, Django)
  • Experience with relational databases, schema design
  • Proficiency in building and debugging distributed systems on AWS
  • Proficiency in both contributing to and designing APIs
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to clear roadblocks and a high degree of ownership
  • Passionate about the positive impact your code can make in people’s lives
