About Us

Schoolrunner empowers educators and school staff to make the right decisions for their students with our powerful data collection and analysis tool. By combining academic, behavior, attendance, and custom data, Schoolrunner provides a holistic view of each student. Our vision is to give teachers the professional tools that save them precious minutes and let them bring a timely, data-informed awareness to their job of educating and inspiring. We are inspired by the schools we work with each day and are passionate about delivering a product that helps talented educators directly impact the lives of young people everywhere.

We offer competitive salary, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible vacation policy, and 401K retirement planning. Not to mention a constant flow of snacks, coffee, and friendly competition around a collection of office games.

By joining Schoolrunner at this stage in our growth, you will be getting in while we are still relatively young and small. So, if you like the idea of working on a close-knit crew as we face the challenges of scaling both our customers and our team, this is the perfect time to jump in.

About You

You are excited about building a product that creates social good and applying your experience (5+ years) contributing to all areas of the stack. You enjoy improving existing features as much as building them from scratch. You feel at home on a highly collaborative team where you can learn as well as teach. You take ownership of your work, from helping to define requirements and timeline to testing and refining the finished product. You understand that needs change, and are comfortable working across teams to prioritize what we deliver. You don’t mind the occasional furry four-legged (sometimes one-eyed) friend at your feet!

We are a small but dynamic team that thrives on jumping onto whatever projects are going to help us help teachers help kids the most. This means on a typical day you might be:

  • Building a RESTful API using object-oriented PHP connected to our MySQL database

  • Architecting a new front-end feature using the appropriate framework for the job - you’ll find jQuery, Angular, and React, and you’re cool with that

  • Addressing a critical bug (hey nobody’s perfect and we are no exception) that is preventing teachers from being able to grade assessments

  • Writing unit, integration, or end-to-end tests for your code so that things like that ^^ happen less often every day

  • Tweaking our app infrastructure in AWS to improve our reliability and scalability

Ultimately we are looking for someone who is passionate about what we do here and excited about getting their hands dirty in every part of it. However, some things that would help you ramp up more quickly on the team are:

  • Familiarity with modern front-end build tools - we just upgraded to webpack 4 and are pretty pumped about it

  • Experience with microservices and containerization - e.g. Node.js on Docker

  • Knowledge of automated build tools such as Jenkins and Ansible for running jobs and Travis for CI/CD

  • Familiarity with queue-based messaging systems

  • Experience with cross-platform mobile application frameworks/tools

  • An eye for design and user experience

We are looking for individuals who are excited to bring their creativity, honesty, and initiative to the challenges of growing a company and creating something meaningful.

We look forward to hearing from you!
