We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our new Global Expansion and Acquiring Tribe, whose goal is to launch and scale new markets on a global scale (LATAM, APAC, EMEA etc). Our team is in charge of defining strategy and delivering products and services for those targeted markets.   

We leverage all products features built within SumUp and adjust and localise them for new markets using our acquiring and banking partners – from a merchant’s first user experience in our app, to making their first sale, to getting their first payout. The engineering expansion squad in the Tribe focuses on making that experience seamless, intuitive, and hassle-free.

What you’ll do

• Design, implement, and iteratively improve backend services
• Maintain and extend the core payments system, responsible for the transaction flow for different payment methods
• Participate in API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators
• Help your team to deliver business value by taking decisions related to backend and actively participating in the product discussions
• Provide comprehensive documentation, good test coverage, and improve code quality
• Collaborate with other software developers, QA and DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment, continuous integration, and support for the software that we deliver
• Actively participate in code reviews with other software engineers

You’ll be great for this role if:

• You have experience with at least one of the following languages: Erlang/Elixir, Ruby, GoLang. Java/Kotlin and Javascript are a plus
• You have experience with Git and SQL (PostgreSQL)
• You have a good understanding of software architecture and application design
• You have good English communication skills, both spoken and written
• You have solid debugging and problem-solving skills
• You're familiar with Agile Methodologies (Scrum or Kanban)
• You have experience with distributed and fault-tolerant systems
• You have a passion for clean, maintainable and testable code
• You value team over individuals and autonomy within your team
