Job description
 

We are looking for an exceptional Head of Engineering who will work with the leadership team to best align business and technology strategy to drive the success of this disruptive venture. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Head of Engineering defines the technical vision and technical roadmap, provides technical guidance to the executive team, ensures the platform is scalable as the business grows, works with FIS IT team and builds and leads a high performing engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the process to define the architectural vision and work with the product group to establish the product roadmap from launch to scale; including defining long-term goals and strategies
  • Identify opportunities and challenges, with constant evaluation of technological advancements to mitigate obstacles and drive success
  • Provide expert technical guidance to all functional areas, including strategy, operations, sales and product
  • Drive continuous product improvement
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms to drive growth, profitability and company value
  • Effectively align resources to achieve key business priorities, including appropriate scope, high quality and timely product releases
  • Work with the enterprise architectural team to implement security and architectural guidelines within the product
  • Implement and maintain a venture-wide disaster recovery and continuity plan according to corporate IT standards
  • Build and scale an efficient and agile end-to-end application infrastructure, with best practices in software delivery
  • Define and implement a consistent and repeatable process for quality assurance across all areas of organization and product build
  • Partner with FIS enterprise IT and maintain close communication with FIS IT Lead
  • Attract and retain a world-class engineering team
  • Cultivate a high-performing, innovative, one-team culture
  • Evangelize technical vision and strategy internally and externally

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in software engineering, with 5+ in the context of a high growth tech company using agile methods
  • 5+ years of experience managing a development team in an agile framework
  • Proven track record of ability to scale and build large engineering teams
  • Proven track record of bringing highly-rated mobile applications to market in a startup environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and ability to operate independently
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with software best practices in:
    • Distributed Systems
    • Performance optimization techniques
    • Cloud security, general Information Security – People, Process and Tooling – securing cloud-native applications and platforms, systems and data security.
    • Software engineering practices (e.g. Agile software development, test-driven development, unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, etc.)
    • Native and/or hybrid mobile development (e.g.: iOS, Android, PhoneGap, ionic, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Object oriented design & development, building backend applications with REST API services using Java, Node.js, or .NET/C#
    • Managing cloud infrastructure in AWS and/or Azure
    • Front-end JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React or Vue
    • Designing and developing service-based architectures (micro-services architecture a plus) & integration with existing systems/applications (legacy and API) & 3rd party systems.
    • Designing data persistence and caching concepts using both SQL and NoSQL DBMS (e.g.: SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.)
    • CI/CD automation and Cloud-native development experience
    • E.g. setup, configure and maintain your own build, DEV/QA environment & CI/CD pipeline
    • Container & container orchestration technologies (e.g.: Docker, Kubernetes etc.)

Nice to have

  • Prior working experience in start-up environment or corporate innovation team
  • Experience working in a serverless, cloud API microservices model
  • Entrepreneurial track record; we want builders!
  • Experience working in a SAFe Agile environment with multiple release trains
