We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and experienced Director of Engineering to join and lead our engineering team. You will lead the team to enhance our decentralized Rails platform that supports modular React frontend applications and public APIs. You will work in a team-oriented environment while collaborating with both business and engineering, taking a coach approach to leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Lead the development of large, distributed systems that are stable, scalable, secure, and monitorable 
  • Design architecture for the entire product line, or ability to facilitate architecture design as a team
  • Collaborate with product, design, marketing, and sales staff on requirements and processes
  • Support and help define a product and engineering roadmap
  • Represent engineering on a leadership team with an ability to clearly express technical concepts and ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Facilitate a consistent release schedule and deliver scheduled sprints on time 
  • Work with external stakeholders (partners or clients) on technical implementations
  • Organize and manage the Engineering department using Agile processes
  • Identify and schedule engineering deliverables, milestones, and required tasks
  • Establish and implement best engineering practices through solid design decisions, processes and tools
  • Develop quality assurance test plans and direct quality assurance testing internally or with an outside agency
  • Recruit new members of the engineering team, assigning duties and responsibilities
  • Build, train, coach, and mentor the Engineering team through well defined objectives and goals
  • Assess the impact of technical debt and prioritize engineering backlog along with business objectives

 

Qualifications 

  • Understand fundamental design principles behind scalable, AWS-hosted web applications
  • Minimum 7 years Software Engineering management experience
  • Ability to manage all aspects of complex information technology projects
  • Ability to build, train, coach, and mentor a team
  • Ability to consult with other departments to determine goals, time frame, or limitations for accomplishing objectives
  • Experience in determining staffing requirements and allotment of resources
  • Ability to identify and manage risks, including the development of contingency and mitigation plans
  • Ability to work closely with business and IT stakeholders to establish project priorities
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups of managers and personnel in order to keep management and others informed of project status and related issues
  • Ability to perform hands-on software development, although you may not code much of the time
