Overview:
JumpCloud is in search of a Director of Cloud Operations. This is a senior-level leadership position responsible for the strategic planning, team building and day to day management of JumpCloud’s Directory-as-a-Service® cloud-based, platform. As Director, you will be leading the core mission for ensuring the globally distributed platform is always on, always secure, scales efficiently and cost-effectively. The most critical characteristic of this leadership position is to drive JumpCloud’s Engineering culture to continually align and improve its function to our Company's core business needs to aggressively deliver value to customers with no sacrifice in quality or security.
What you’ll be doing:
- DevOps - Lead and mentor a team of exceptional DevOps engineers. While developing the team’s strategic roadmap
- SecOps - Grow and mentor a new team of Security and Compliance Engineers who are responsible for fortifying the JumpCloud platform, assisting engineering with secure coding best practices and lead JumpCloud’s compliance efforts.
- SRE - Grow and mentor an exceptional team of ‘smokejumper’ engineers responsible for issue escalation, triaging and site reliability oversight.
- Test Automation and Quality Assurance - Grow and mentor a team of exceptional SDET and quality assurance engineers to broaden and deepen JumpCloud’s automated QA efforts.
- Agile practices - Mentor and evangelize JumpCloud’s Agile practice and manage its Agile Coaching team to drive continued SDLC practices.
We’re looking for:
- Deep understanding of cloud-development practices on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure.
- Oversee architectural and design decisions for JumpCloud deployment and AWS hosting.
- Maintain and ensure a disciplined team approach to patches, upgrades, security and operational best practices.
- Contribute to team workload and escalation demands in a senior technical capacity.
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies: Scrum and Kanban.
- Comfortable with developing and operating an on-call group of engineers and leveraging NOC and automated tooling to respond to monitoring alerts.
Ideal Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of Engineering and cloud-focused IT experience with at least 4 years in a management role.
- Deep experience with AWS hosting best practices and design principles including IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, ALB, ELB and SES.
- Extensive experience with Agile development practices and managing DevOps teams.
- Hands on experience guiding Development and QA teams on CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience managing CI/CD tooling using SaltStack, Docker/Kubernetes, Hashicorp Nomad or similar technologies.
- Experience with CloudWatch, DataDog, New Relic, Nagios, Splunk or similar monitoring tools.
- Experience managing Source Control systems, such as GIT and SVN.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively with internal customers, outside customers, organizations, and vendors with a strong customer service-orientation.
- Demonstrated vision and ownership of major technologies, infrastructure and systems across varying landscapes.
