Charter Technical Engineering Center (CTEC) facilities in Englewood, CO oversee the design and architecture of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.
JOB SUMMARY
As a Director of Engineering in the Broadband Access team, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading a team of engineers responsible for the development, testing and certification of both DOCSIS and PON related devices and technologies. The candidate will play a significant leadership role in the implementation of Charter's Network Evolution (Path to 10G).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities will require technical leadership in key areas of design, development and testing of the DOCSIS and PON Access Networks, working closely with the Access Architecture team, Access CPE team, Operations team, Product team, vendors and additional internal and external stakeholders.
Strong leadership capabilities, promoting teamwork and collaboration are required for this very important position. The selected individual will provide guidance and mentorship to the team by creating detailed test plans linked to technical requirements and support the team throughout development, testing and certification processes.
An in-depth understanding of the existing MSOs DOCSIS and Fiber network architectures (i.e., Hardware, Software Network Devices) is required.
With a strong analytical mindset, and a positive "can do" attitude, this leader will create and promote an ideal work environment for the team to perform at the highest level.
The candidate must have a strong background and understanding of key network elements from several vendors such as CommScope, Cisco, Casa, Vecima, Harmonic, Adtran, Falcon V Systems and Harmonic.
The individual will also support vendors with product and service requirements based on Charter business needs and internal customer requests.
Develops an effective front line Leadership team and assist them with developing their direct reports as to drive a high performance culture and environment
Leads an innovative, collaborative work team to produce exceptional results delivering the customer experience
Oversees designated operations which may include, but not limited to Headend, network engineering, advanced video engineering, construction projects, and related equipment requirements
Provides engineering support and direction for new or existing technologies and current operational initiatives
Evaluates and consults with all levels of leadership regarding technical operations, strategic planning of rebuilds, network operations, dispatch, and new product development and deployment
Directs quality control programs for engineering operations and consistent operational procedures
Reviews selections on bids for contracted projects, and provide recommendations as necessary
Directs capital budget process, executes approved budget plan
Ensures current procedures and tests are performed in accordance with Federal Communication Commission Standards
Oversees the maintenance of records as required by the Federal Communications Commission and other government agencies
Ensures adherence to company TQA policies
Leads and participates in succession planning
Performs other duties as requested
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires strong technical skills working knowledge in the following technology areas:
- CCAP, DAA (Remote PHY, Remote MAC/PHY or RMD)
- DOCSIS standards including DOCSIS 3.1 and DOCSIS 4.0
- DOCSIS CPEs, eMTAs, Cable Modems, Wireless Routers and Gateways
- Flexible MAC Architecture (FMA), FDD and FDX technologies
- FTTP technologies, EPON: OLTs, Remote OLTs (R-OLT), ONUs
- IP Networking (IPv4, IPv6)
- Other emerging technologies
- Strong track record as a leader and as a manager

- Outstanding communications skills
Additional Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Advanced Knowledge of HFC, Advanced Video, IP Networks, and Telephony
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to supervise and motivate others
Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Advanced knowledge of all FCC compliance reports and other rules and regulations
Comprehensive understanding of applicable local and state rules and regulations
Comprehensive understanding of OSHA rules and regulations, both federal and state
Comprehensive understanding of HVAC and power distribution systems
In-depth knowledge of Analog Transmission Line Theory
In-depth knowledge of Electronic theory
In-depth knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations
In-depth knowledge of Fiber Optic theory
In-depth knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code
Required Education
- A BS in Electrical Engineering and/or computer Science required - MBA preferred
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
Management experience - 7
Engineering experience and/or network operations - 10
Project management experience - 2
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
- A minimum of 10 years of management experience, preferably connected to MSO technologies and services

The pay for this position has a salary range of $135,300.00 to $239,500.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
