The Solutions Infrastructure Engineer (SIE) is a member of the Direct Access Solutions team which is responsible for managing the development of new capabilities for the Direct Access Program (DAP). This position will be responsible for defining hardware, operating system, network and security requirements as well as managing vendor implementation. The SIE will also be responsible for providing Tier 3 support to operations teams in support of existing customer systems. International travel is required in support of new system deploys as well as customer engagement and operational system evaluation. The SIE has a broad range of experience and expertise across multiple disciplines and can work cooperatively with other subject matter experts to effectively convey problem and address complex system level challenges.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as the hardware, OS and network subject matter expert for a team of software system engineers
  • Support development and implementation of a DAP roadmap to provide architectural improvements to existing Direct Access Facility (DAF) and headquarters infrastructure as well as planning for next-generation systems.
  • Follow systems engineering processes for DAF enhancements and upgrades, working with customers, vendors, and internal organizations, to define concepts of operations, develop requirements, and oversee development, coordinate tests (factory, site, etc.), and ensure requirements are met.
  • Support new business development by providing engineering analyses, cost and schedule estimates, and technical solution support for proposals.
  • Provide oversight of technical designs and upgrade implementations to ensure adherence to the planned architecture/requirements and expected performance during operations.
  • Keep up to date on current industry trends and key software and technology providers to evaluate their potential fit with the DAP system architecture.
  • Define and prepare documents that meet the requirements of the customers and the DAP system.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers for the installation and startup of new DAF systems, which includes managing the technical performance of contractors and working through technical issues with customer.
  • Support DAF operations by providing engineering support, isolating problems, and defining solutions.
  • Provide oversight and technical support to in house system build activities as needed.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of system administrator or engineering experience with increasing responsibilities 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience building and supporting virtualization technologies 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as network administrator or engineer
  • Advanced skills with server operating systems, such as Microsoft Server SUSE or RHEL
  • Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Client and WINS; experience of multiple OSes authenticating to AD; experience with AD architecture and integration with Linux systems
  • Advanced network security administration skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, which include customer communication and technical writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, appreciation of international cultures.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to travel internationally which may be 10 to 30% of the year.
  • US citizen and has the ability to obtain a US security clearance.

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Python or PowerShell scripting for system administration 
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired; or equivalent work experience 
  • Experience managing and supporting build, test and deploy of satellite ground systems
