DevOps/IT Engineer

The DevOps/IT Engineer role at RemoteLock is a combination of traditional IT skills and DevOps production infrastructure support, maintenance and new enhancements.  We’re seeking a talented individual that can assume the IT responsibilities of our office infrastructure ( laptop builds, software access & configuration, networking support, etc.) for new and existing employees, but primarily focus on the management and support our AWS-hosted development, test, and production server environments. 

This is a technical role that collaborates with software developers, quality assurance analysts, project managers, and other IT staff members to manage code releases and develop/maintain/improve the system platform and infrastructure, with a focus on automation of continuous integration/continuous delivery processes. The DevOps Engineer possesses the general qualifications of an IT support engineer and a junior software developer but with a specific DevOps focus. The DevOps Engineer will be expected to perform and participate in the following responsibilities with guidance from senior level architects and engineers. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

As a DevOps/IT Engineer, the primary responsibility is to provide RemoteLock employees with reliable office infrastructure and to support, monitor, maintain and enhance our development, QA, and global production environments hosted at AWS. The split between DevOps and IT duties for this role is expected to be 80% - 20% respectively.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Order, build & configure laptop OS and 3rd party software for employee onboarding.
  • Support internal and external employees with office infrastructure (networking, wifi, printers, software access, etc.) 
  • Support building new systems environments, and upgrading/patching existing ones, through the use of automation tooling; build and test automation tools for infrastructure provisioning.
  • Design and implement build, deployment, and configuration management tools
  • Build, maintain, and monitor configuration standards.
  • Build, maintain and manage continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) tools.
  • Assist with code deployments in all environments.
  • Formulate and develop new ideas to improve development delivery.
  • Develop ways to monitor system metrics, and improve system performance.
  • Develop and improve best practices in employee onboarding and deployment/monitoring processes
  • Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations.
  • On-call support

 Qualifications:

  • Past experience in traditional IT role (this is expected to be only 20% of day to day responsibilities)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a DevOps or related role
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, it’s architecture and systems and services. AWS certification(s) make you a strong candidate
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Experience with Ansible
  • Awareness of IT and DevOps technology trends and applications 
  • Git workflow including general code management, branching, committing, and merging
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of people and personalities.
