Position Description
As a member of the Technology team, the DevOps Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing site reliability and deployment automation.
The successful candidate has experience managing large SaaS solutions and creating Build and Deployment pipelines for various applications that meet modern Continuous Integration / Continuous Development standards.
In the first 2 weeks you will:
- Assist the DevOps team with tickets within established Service Level Agreements (SLA) to better understand the integration between the business and technology groups
- Configure your local system with Kubernetes to support legacy products
In the first 30 days you will:
- Manage project and task work using Azure DevOps (Visual Studio Team Services)
- Review and adhere to all documented processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the IT team
- Review and gain knowledge of Application Insights and additional monitoring tools used in Production
- Review and understand the systems architecture and promotion paths
In the first 90 days you will:
- Participate in an on-call rotation for production support and deployments
- Develop a tactical approach to fixing issues reported by application insights and additional monitoring tools
- Provide best practice recommendations to facilitate CI/CD processes
- Work closely with Database team to further automate database deployment processes
- Participate in facilitating retrofit of legacy build and release to Octopus Deploy
- Develop Desired State Configuration automation
- Assist in supporting legacy products which utilizes Ansible Playbooks, Kubernetes Cluster, Linux Hosts and AWS Cloud Hosting
- Evaluate cloud solutions to containerize existing microservices
- Contribute to and help implement the DevOps portions of the Technical Roadmap
In the first 6 months you will:
- Serve as the first escalation point for your team members
- Perform an assessment of the current environment including automation, build and release processes, and SOP’s and present recommendations for changes or improvements
- Assist in a cloud migration to Microsoft Azure
- Fix or Report all issues relating to build and release in Azure Devops and Octopus Deploy.
- Provide weekly performance summary of the build and release pipelines in Azure DevOps
- Restructure project access in Azure Devops to facilitate access roles
By the end of the first year you will have:
- Attained subject matter expertise of all DevOps processes related to key KPA products
- Increased reliability of build and release process leading to a CI/CD methodology
- Reduced the time to build new environments through automated processes
- Obtained a minimum of one Microsoft certification directly contributing to the KPA Microsoft Partnership competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or Systems Administrator
- Strong competency in Microsoft products and services
- Experience with PaaS technologies such as containers, container orchestration and scheduling, service registration / discovery and monitoring (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience with Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) or Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Practical experience developing software or meeting operational needs with code and scripting (Powershell, Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby)
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices and supporting tools (Azure DevOps, Octopus, similar)
- Strong competency Microsoft Azure products and services
- Experience with infrastructure automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform, or similar)
- Good interpersonal skills and communication with a passion for working with all types of managers, architects, developers, QA, and operations personnel
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and track time efficiently
- Desire to learn and continually improve self and others though knowledge sharing
Compensation:
- Annual base salary between $130-140k
- Bonus potential of 10% annually
KPA Office/Event Attendance and COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
Daily office attendance is currently optional for all employees. Each office will be open for those seeking the opportunity to return to the office. Team meetings and events will be held in both KPA Offices and outside of KPA Offices where employee attendance will be expected.
For all KPA office sites, events and meetings, any employee attending, even temporarily, must be fully vaccinated with at least fourteen (14) days following their final vaccine. The final vaccine is defined as a second dose for Pfizer or Moderna, or the first dose of Johnson and Johnson.
