The role

The AV Test Operations Lead will report to the Director of System Integration and Test and will be responsible for the build out and scaling of the 24-hour operation of two different autonomous vehicle test sites, associated test assets, and (maybe) personnel. The successful candidate will be up for an engineering and logistic challenge to efficiently and effectively run a multi-site test and development operation, greatly affect a rapidly growing integration and test team, and support the integration and validation of complex autonomous vehicle systems, and work with a broad set of engineering and commercial teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Triage incoming requests for test resources or test execution
    • Manage multiple shifts of operations at 2+ different test sites
    • Prioritize integration & test work, shared resources, and test requests based on company goals, engineering needs, and upcoming milestones
    • Establish and iterate upon test operations escalation path and processes
    • Partner with facilities manager and test site leads to keep test sites in great condition and operating smoothly
    • Request and arrange test site improvements as product functionality expands
    • Manage and arrange maintenance for test assets including multiple autonomous vehicles
    • Facilitate customer demonstrations
    • Understand and help prioritize test exceptions and help drive toward a product that meets all customer, business, and technical expectations
    • Partner with other engineering teams to trial site setup procedures, field reporting strategies, and data ingestion processes
    • Help hire, train, and develop a team of dispatch technicians and field technicians
    • Ensure system is characterized across a host of environments
    • Commit to travel and perform field work, depending on test site and customer locations (up to 25%)

Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline
    • Experience operating a test operations or AV operations group
    • Experience working on projects with hardware, software, and integrated systems
    • Strong organization skills
    • Demonstrated ability to implement clear, lightweight processes
    • Test, debug, and system engineering mindset
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated strong leadership and people skills

Ideal Qualifications

    • Experience standing up, expanding, and operating an autonomous vehicle test or operations team
    • Experience with robotics software engineering, autonomous vehicle systems, computer vision, machine learning, and/or planning and controls
    • Technical project management experience with complex system of systems
    • Familiarity with C/C++, ROS, and Python
