Description

The Database Administrator and Analyst will perform all necessary database development, integration, manipulation, and operations related to documenting and measuring scholarship program outcomes, student success outcomes, program effectiveness and organizational impact for the American Indian College Fund. 

This position must share the College Fund’s Guiding Principles of which respect is paramount.  This position requires a team player who can collaborate with staff and departments across the organization to coordinate research efforts and work with current and future vendors to ensure a functional and effective data information system.  Dedication and responsibility are essential to the role. In addition, strong data analyst skills are needed to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment while ensuring all assigned tasks are completed and deadlines are met. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of and the evolving functionality of the College Fund database to serve the needs of the Research, Evaluation and Faculty Development (REFD) and Student Success Services (SSS), and Programs Initiatives teams.
  • Works with REFD to ensure implementation of Research and Evaluation Plans with maintenance and interaction of College Fund database.
  • Conducts database management.
  • Contributes to the development of scholarship and programs database.  
  • Is able to produce organizational data for REFD, Programs and Student Success Services teams.
  • Data management:
    • Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and validity of all data entered in the database.
    • Supports the development of data collection templates and processes to ensure efficient and accurate data imports.
    • Imports data from various data sources including IPEDS, NCES, National Student Clearinghouse and custom College Fund surveys, program impact summaries, and program reports.
    • Responds to requests for data from program managers and College Fund staff.
    • Presents findings from database queries and research to internal audiences, including College Fund co-workers, managers, and Executives.
    • Prepares, formats, and cleans research data in support of specific projects.
    • Produces data in support of program, student success, and organizational goals.
    • Conducts empirical research and inferential statistics to respond to organizational research needs and questions.
    • Assist in the development, daily operation, and customization of a relational database that serves the needs of the College Fund’s Student Success Services, Resource Development, Research, Evaluation, and Programs staff.
    • Prepare data visualizations, infographics, fact sheets, and written reports summarizing the results of database queries and research findings.
  • Collaborates with REFD staff and leadership to develop and implement an REFD Research Agenda
  • Contributes to College Fund efforts to demonstrate student, program and organizational success and outcomes.
  • Works with vendors, users, application developers, and management to obtain information and develop an understanding of needs and recommends potential solutions utilizing relational technology. Assesses and assigns resources needed and oversees quality of work produced.
  • Collaborates and consults with users, system administrators, and systems programmers to overcome significant operational and/or technical issues and problems.
  • Develops plans to install, maintain, enhance, test, and migrate DBMS products and supporting software.
  • Actively participates in local and national professional organizations and user groups to keep abreast of new developments and technology and makes recommendations for advancing technology at the University.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to prepare, format, clean, analyze, and present research data in support of specific projects.
  • Understanding of how to collect and analyze data consistent with project reporting requirements, College Fund goals, and stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to conduct systematic research and impact evaluation and analyze complex information.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Can establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, transaction processing procedures, and design tools.
  • Provide day-to-day end-user support (including system configuration, complex reports, and system maintenance) and assist users to enhance and increase their understanding of the database.
  • Maintains database performance by troubleshooting problems and strategizing solutions.
  • Develops data security policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Creates database management policies and procedures.
  • Experience automating database tasks and integrations with Zapier, Integromat, Automate.io, or similar applications.
  • Ability to write VBA and Python scripts to facilitate data processing, analyses, and visualizations.
  • Experience using Power BI and Tableau to facilitate data processing, analyses, and visualizations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research processes (research, proposal writing, data collection, analysis, and presentations)
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing data analytics tools (such as Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI)

Experience

  • Experience in analytic development, research, and program design.
  • One to three years of experience in database administration, database architecture, data science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience with database management and manipulation (e.g. MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL Oracle, MongoDB platforms)
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, transaction processing procedures, and design tools.
  • One to three years of experience in database administration, information technology, database architecture, or a related field
  • One to three years in data analytics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or master’s degree in psychology, Cognitive Science, Education, Management Information Systems, or other related fields
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research design and methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative)
  • Ability to format, prepare, and analyze data for statistical analyses using statistical software packages including SPSS and R.
  • Ability to multitask and balance a variety of projects.
