  • Drive a major initiative to increase our company’s already-explosive growth
  • Build the foundation of our growth practice
  • Analyze rich, unique data sets
  • Collaborate across product, marketing, engineering and data
  • Drive product improvements that helps customers build and deliver software faster

About Growth at CircleCI

This role is part of CircleCI’s new growth team. The growth team delivers measurable results through incremental product and marketing improvements. The team collaborates across CircleCI’s entire organization, including product, marketing, design, engineering, revenue and data. This role reports into CircleCI’s data and analytics team. The data and analytics team is chartered to use analytics to improve our customer and product experience, lead the company’s data analysts and foster a data-driven company culture.

What you’ll do:

  • Be a brilliant analyst: Refine business questions into research plans. Uncover data sources. Hunt down relevant data sources. Work confidently with clean and messy data. Query, clean, analyze, and visualize data. Soundly use statistics. Present insights to peers and executives. Tell compelling stories. Build dashboards. Harness analytics to drive action and outcomes.
  • Understand our customers: Focus on customer acquisition, activation, referrals, monetization, engagement and retention. Identify customer characteristics, behaviors and psychology. Improve our segmenting and cohorting.
  • Understand our product: Analyze features, journeys and life cycles. Grow conversion, engagement and efficiency across our funnel. Define and document KPIs around health, virality, churn, traffic and more.  Understand the sources of our analytics data.
  • Leverage a growth toolkit: Define the models, paths and loops of growth, especially the viral ones. Identify, size and prioritize opportunities for incremental improvements. Work in cycles of build, measure and learn. Generate hypothesis. Define, implement and report on AB tests and other experiments. Ensure, and educate stakeholders on, statistical validity.
  • Build a growth practice: Celebrate fast, frequent failure. Scale success. Mature from one-off tactics to repeatable processes. Embrace not just quantitative methods, but qualitative; not just analytics, but creative thinking. Partner with Engineering to expand event and data instrumentation.  Improve our event taxonomy. Define requirements for data-engineering and data-science team to improve our data, automate repetitive work and add capabilities.

What we're looking for:

  • Two years of analytics experience in product and growth: At least two years in an analytics role specifically focused on product or growth. At least four years in any analytics role--maybe in product, growth, marketing, operations, finance, consulting or elsewhere. The more product or growth analytics, the better.
  • Experience with high growth: At least two years as part of high-growth businesses. Ideally, those with well-defined, product-enabled funnels and robust customer flows.
  • Technical education: Ideally, a bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or Finance).
  • Proficiency across analytics tools: Advanced SQL queries (e.g., complex joins, CTE, and window functions). Advanced spreadsheets (e.g., pivots, and complex math/date/text/array formula). Bonus for Python or R analytics. Basic familiarity with statistics (e.g., distributions, experiments, significance testing and regression). Hands-on experience with a major analytics/visualization platform (e.g., Tableau, Looker or the like).
  • Proficiency across growth tools: Productive in a variety of growth tools: a site, product or events analytics platform (Google Analytics, Amplitude, Segment, Mixpanel or the like), an AB testing tool (Optimizely, VWO or the like) and other growth tools (e.g., Hotjar). Ability to quickly ramp yourself on the next tool of the moment.
  • Right soft skills: Passion for data, discovery and problem solving. Curious; confident; open to questioning assumptions and being questioned.  Effective communicator across technical and business audiences; able to manage stakeholder expectations; and able to collaborate with hands-on executives.  Entrepreneurial; fast-moving; able to balance vision and execution; and not easily discouraged. Instinct for value; and focused on the incremental, not gold plating.  Empathy for the challenges engineers face regarding productivity and time to market.

You can work remotely anywhere in North America. You also have the option to work out of our San Francisco, Denver, Boston or Toronto offices.  CircleCI is a distributed company with team members across 50+ cities and 13 countries.

We know there’s no such thing as a “perfect" candidate.  We’re all a work in progress and are growing new skills and capabilities all the time. CircleCI welcomes those who are enthusiastic about learning and evolving, so however you identify and whatever your background, if this looks like a role where you could do work that excites you, we hope you’ll apply.
