The Data Science team ensures quality of decision making across SendGrid by solving difficult, non-routine problems through the application of scientific methods.  The team applies mathematical and statistical techniques to draw conclusions and makes actionable recommendations that address business objectives and drive change.  Work by the team involves gathering, manipulating and synthesizing data and visualizing relevant information to draw conclusions and make recommendations that result in implementable strategies.

You’re an experienced and seasoned data scientist who mentors and leads other data scientists.  Experienced in Software Development as well as Data Science, you are capable of smoothly and efficiently integrating data science solutions into production systems.  You have demonstrated ability to lead data science focused projects. You use your breadth of experience to support product managers’ development of new data-based products.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with teams across the business by leading discussions with cross-functional stakeholders, understanding business objectives and applying quantitative analytical approaches to draw conclusions and make actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct rigorous quantitative analysis, including gathering the data, checking it for accuracy, cleaning it, exploring it, interpreting it, and communicating results.
  • Deploy statistical analytics and modeling techniques most suited to business needs (using Python, SQL, and/or other relevant tools).
  • Build prediction models that generate measurable business value.
  • Translate product requirements into technical specifications which document experimental designs and ML models.
  • Integrate prediction models and data structures into production code.
  • Design experiments to measure effectiveness of models, tools and programs.

About You

  • 4-6 years of experience in quantitative analysis roles
  • Capable of analyzing trillion item datasets.  Exceptional numerical and statistical ability, with an excitement for applying analytics to business challenges.  Experience using analytic / database software and languages such as SQL, SAS, SPSS, R, Python. Hands-on experience with large data sets a plus.
  • Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Economics, etc.) or equivalent training
  • Experience with statistical modeling, especially supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods and simple regression.
  • Basic business knowledge with the ability to understand the difference between what is interesting and what is useful.  Ability to describe analytic processes, including when a specific approach should be used and why.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Decisive - Uses a framework or process by which to make decisions. At times, will need to make decisions quickly and often with incomplete data.  
  • Customer Focused – You seek deep understanding of your target users and are adept at understanding their problems and arriving at elegant solutions to those problems.
