Do you dream about creating a more sustainable future? At Uplight, we are motivating energy users and providers to accelerate the clean energy ecosystem. Working with over 75 of the world’s leading electric and gas utilities, Uplight provides an end-to-end customer energy experience. Uplight delivers personalized experiences that customers have now come to expect–improving satisfaction, increasing revenue, reducing the cost to serve, and contributing to carbon reduction goals. We are in the process of obtaining our B Corp certification, enabling us to put our values into action by not only making decisions for the benefit of our shareholders, but also for our customers, environment, employees, and community.

We seek a Data Scientist to help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet. You should have at least 2 to 3  years of prior experience in statistics and Python as well as at least basic knowledge of data pipelines and an intrinsic curiosity around data to join our team. You will help us measure our products, conduct ad hoc data analyses, automate manual work, and advance our understanding of how and why our products achieve energy savings. You will work alongside other members of the Data-driven Reporting, Investigation, Verification, & Evaluation (DRIVE) squad and other squads on a variety of projects across Uplight.

From running established regression models to developing new analytic models, from presenting results to stakeholders to developing automated pipelines and dashboards to quickly visualize performance metrics, and from testing how products are currently working to conducting controlled A/B tests and external research to understand how to further our products, your work is a critical part of advancing Uplight’s products forward.

What you get to do:

You will be an expert in Uplight’s product performance. You will answer questions from stakeholders both internally and externally on what is working and how we can measure additional metrics moving forward. The questions will change so you must be comfortable tackling new challenges on a regular basis.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Running, maintaining, and developing statistical models and their associated data pipelines
  • Performing ad hoc analyses on data pulled from different sources including databases
  • Working with product managers and user experience teams to identify new product features and modify existing features as needed
  • Aggregating data, drawing conclusions/making recommendations, and disseminating results of analyses to internal and external stakeholders by creating data visualizations, writing memos, and giving presentations, as well as being able to articulate the methodologies used
  • Pairing with others, both within the Pod and across the organization, on projects
  • Ensuring all results are peer-reviewed and reproducible

Skills and experience are necessary, but we hire on value alignment first, so if you feel you would be a good fit with us, still consider applying.

What you bring to Uplight:

  • Experience with designing and running statistical algorithms, specifically regression, as well as knowledge of machine learning approaches
  • Knowledge of the ETL process and desire to apply that knowledge to help automate repetitive tasks
  • Moderate to Advanced Python experience
  • Solid understanding of how to evaluate models, confidence intervals, and diagnosing model goodness-of-fit
  • Background in a field that allowed you to demonstrate good attention to detail and work quality
  • Desire to continue to learn new techniques/approaches and intellectual curiosity to take on any new challenge
  • Ability to write basic SQL queries
  • Positive attitude, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment, and ability to work on a team

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with Airflow
  • Experience with data visualization
  • An understanding of the utility industry

What makes working at Uplight amazing:

In addition to all the standard medical and dental benefits that kick in Day 1, we:

  • Are proud to be over 300+ rebels with an important cause to help create a more sustainable planet.
  • Are committed to the environment, our employees, and our communities
  • Are focused on career growth by following defined career ladders
  • Take our work and mission seriously and….we love to laugh!

We also:

  • Provide a 401k match
  • Have an innovative flexible time off policy
  • Keep you energized with plenty of food and drink
