nature of position

The Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist is responsible for assisting in the design, development, maintenance and support of CHFA BI solutions including queries, reports, dashboards, data marts and data warehouses. The BI Specialist function includes requirements gathering, data warehouse design, logical modeling, data acquisition design (ETL), development, testing, and deployment as well as documentation. This is an ideal position to continue to grow and develop BI skills with a team that is nationally recognized for excellence in BI analytics while also contributing to our organizations mission to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. 

 

essential functions

  • Conduct interviews and gather requirements with our business partners identify requirements
  • Ability to understand business rules and requirements and apply them to technical solutions
  • Support Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes
  • Support and maintain data marts and data warehouses
  • Able to write queries and build reports from multiple data sources
  • Support CHFA’s data governance program and data governance tools
  • Testing and validation of SQL code and BI solutions, including support of test automation
  • Create and maintain system documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

knowledge, skills and ability      

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and transforming data
  • Proficiency in BI concepts and practices, including data warehousing and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
  • Ability to work with business users gathering requirements and translate those requirements into a technical solution
  • Understanding of data integration issues (validation and cleaning)
  • Familiar with Tableau or similar data visualization tools (Power BI, Qlik, MicroStrategy, etc.)
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills required to teach business partners how to use BI solutions
  • Assist IT staff in implementing and troubleshooting BI solutions
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to manage multiple activities and achieve results while meeting project deadlines
  • Able to work independently with guidance from CHFA’s senior BI team
  • Must be a team player
  • Ability to continuously improve and develop knowledge and skills while adapting quickly to changing circumstances and processes.
  • Ability to work towards inclusion in all activities and decisions through collaboration and appreciation of diverse perspectives.
  • Comfortable working in a remote and hybrid work environment.
  • Reports to BI Manager in the IT Division.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 1-3 years experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Familiarity with common BI reporting tools (Microsoft SSRS, etc.)
  • Prefer knowledge of enterprise use of data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau Server)
  • Prefer knowledge of, or work experience, in financial services industry
  • Familiar with designing, building, and maintaining data warehouses and data marts.
  • Familiar with agile development methodologies
  • Experience with Alteryx is a plus

 

experience/education

  • 1-3 years previous experience in analyzing, designing, and programming business intelligence solutions (Advanced degree may be substituted for work experience requirements)
  • 1-3 years of experience with SQL databases
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field required. (Equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree requirements).

Laptop with remote connectivity via VPN, remote collaboration tools (Teams), modern audio-visual conferencing technology in meeting rooms.

physical environment

The incumbent in this position will perform the essential functions of the position primarily in an office environment.  Must have sight and the ability to use a computer, with or without assisting devices.

salary range

$74,483 - $119,172 + annual bonuses
