HomeAdvisor is currently looking for a smart, motivated, and energetic Telephony Administrator to join our Telephony team to help support and maintain the Avaya CMS and Asterisk platform. We’re looking for someone who’s worked in an Avaya world for a few years and understands it, but who wants to work with open source PBXs like Asterisk.

The Telephony Administrator:

The Telephony Administrator is responsible for the administration, installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of HomeAdvisor’s telephony environment, and assists the Voice Engineer in their duties while performing assigned tasks, including:

  • Administer the Voice over IP phone system interconnecting remote users and remote offices, as well as primary contact for afterhours support.
  • Tier I & II troubleshooting of VoIP network issues on in-house systems, along with moves, adds, changes, deletions, modifications, and ongoing maintenance of Avaya and Asterisk platforms.
  • Provide support, maintenance, and configuration on appropriate VoIP hardware such as IP phones (Avaya), Avaya One X softphone.
  • Administer SIP trunks and PRI circuits.
  • Assist in performing periodic patching and software updates to the appropriate systems – Avaya, Asterisk, and VPI voice recording platform.
  • Assist in planning, configuration, and implementation of reliable voice infrastructure solutions and maintain inventory (tracking and reporting) of VoIP equipment.
  • Analyze call flows and current utilizations of PRIs/SIP trunks or other technologies to make recommendations for current and future uses.
  • Work with vendors, application developers, and other technology groups to resolve problems.
  • Assist Voice Engineer on VoIP infrastructure and policy adherence, provide back up support maintenance for both systems as necessary, and resolve daily help desk trouble tickets in telephony voice queue.
  • Provide ongoing training for IP phone client, HQ, and remote users.

Tools for the trade:

  • BS in Computer Science preferred and/or Technology from a four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Appropriate certifications related to Avaya and at least 2-3 years’ experience with Avaya, or equivalent VoIP experience.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of VoIP and traditional call flows and signaling protocols, including SIP/H.248, RTP/RTCP; Voice TDM including ISDN, DTMF and /FXS/FXO, TCP/IP, LAN switching, routing protocols, L2/L3, device configuration, VLAN, ACL, etc.
  • Understanding of Dial Plans, Gateways and H.323 configurations.
  • Understanding of QoS (Quality of Service) and the mechanisms required in both the LAN/WAN.
  • Proficient knowledge of enterprise LANs and WANs.
  • Strong ability to handle multiple network support request over a given time period.
  • Should have basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong grasp of customer service.
