Summary

The Operations Engineer will assume an integral role in the development, integration, test and operational engineering support of the DigitalGlobe Image Delivery systems. The GSE will quickly become an expert in the Image Delivery software system architecture and components and work to ensure highly reliable operations. This position will work closely with Mission Planners, Systems Engineers, Test Engineers, Software Developers, and Operations support teams to provide excellent operations support for the Image Delivery systems. The Operations Engineer will be available to provide on-call support on an as-needed basis. The candidate shall demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision, excellent interpersonal communications skills and experience in working with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and non-engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to 24x7 operations teams managing the DigitalGlobe ground system, including 24x7 on-call support
• Provide key support to our low latency image processing systems running in a high performance computing environment
• Deployment of production systems and software into the operational DigitialGlobe ground system, with high focus on minimizing downtime
• Provide key support and take on responsibility for delivery systems including system architecture, requirements development, vendor selection, contractor management, equipment installation, performance verification, and troubleshooting / resolving all issues
• Natural curiosity and ability to continually learn about our evolving complex system of systems
• Desire to improve software systems and fix problems
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• Ability to explain detailed technical topics and summarize business impacts
• Ability to collaborate on large scale projects across multiple teams
• Able to interface with customers, translating their needs into DigitalGlobe requirements
• Ability to troubleshoot operational issues across multiple complex systems and propose and implement new solutions to improve operations
• Experience with a multiple security enclave system
• Engineering Bachelors degree with relevant experience in satellite ground systems and/or operations
• 5+ years experience in operations and operations support preferred
• Experience with programming and scripting languages (ex. Ruby, perl, java) and LINUX and/or UNIX, proficiency highly desired
• Experience with relational databases and SQL experience highly desired
• Strong skills in undertstanding software design, development and troubleshooting
• Ability to apply for and hold a Secret National Security Clearance required
