Job Duties and Responsibilities
In the role of Head of Experience Design, you will lead a dynamic team of product designers and researchers in crafting innovative, user-centric solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals. Overseeing end-to-end product design strategy and processes, you will champion a customer-first approach and conduct in-depth user research to inform design decisions. Through cross-functional collaboration, including workshops and design sprints, innovation was fostered. You will play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining a robust design system for consistency across the enterprise. Beyond managing a team of about 10 to 15, you will foster a culture of creativity, accountability, continuous improvement and provide a strong sense of coaching and mentorship for your team's growth.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a dynamic team of product designers and researchers
  • Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team
  • Provide strong coaching and mentorship to support the growth of team members
  • Develop and oversee end-to-end product design strategy aligned with business goals
  • Champion a customer-first approach in all design solutions
  • Conduct in-depth user research to inform design decisions
  • Ensure that all design solutions are innovative and aligned with user needs
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration through workshops and design sprints
  • Work closely with other departments to drive innovation and ensure cohesive product experiences
  • Establish and maintain a robust design system to ensure consistency across the enterprise
  • Manage a team of approximately 10 to 15 designers and researchers
  • Play a crucial role in hiring, onboarding, and developing team members
  • Ensure the quality and excellence of the design deliverables produced by the team
  • Set and maintain high standards for design processes and outcomes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and incorporate feedback into the design process
  • Drive innovation within the design team and contribute to the overall innovation culture of the organization
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in design to bring fresh insights to the team
  • Establish metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of design solutions and iterate based on data-driven insights


Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years' in building and leading world-class user experience design organizations and demonstrated discipline leadership at senior levels in the organization
  • 10+ years' experience designing and delivering products in a cross-functional team environment


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership: proven experience leading and managing design teams in fast-paced environments. Ability to inspire and motivate teams toward a shared vision.
  • Design Expertise: extensive experience in product design, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful projects. Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • User Research: demonstrated expertise in conducting various user research methodologies. Ability to translate research insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Strategic Thinking: track record of aligning design strategies with business objectives. Experience in developing and evolving design systems.
  • Communication Skills: strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions to diverse stakeholders. Experience presenting design concepts and strategies to executive leadership.
  • Collaboration: proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience facilitating workshops and design thinking sessions.
  • Adaptability: ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Willingness to embrace new technologies and design trends.
  • Innovation and Creativity: Demonstrate a track record of introducing innovative design solutions that differentiate products in the market.
  • User-Centric Focus: Ensure design decisions are grounded in a deep understanding of user needs and behaviors.
  • Team Empowerment: Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, empowering team members to contribute their best work.
  • Results-oriented: Achieve measurable success in terms of user satisfaction, product adoption, and business impact.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging design methodologies, integrating them into the design process for continuous improvement.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in enterprise, design agency, and more nimble/startup cultures
  • Diplomatic, relationship building, and ability to influence people over whom you might not have direct authority
  • Great design sense and customer empathy
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, inspire, and grow world-class experience design talent
  • Executive presence and commercial acumen
  • Familiarity with a range of D2C platforms and solutions as well as design system maturity
  • Grit, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to learn and explore

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $161,500.00/Year - $218,500.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
