Hello!

HumanCode develops next-generation personal genomics applications. The human genome contains powerful information that will improve the way we live; we create experiences to help people unlock these insights to live their life to the fullest.

** Important note:  if you want to be considered for this position, you need to follow the 4 specific instructions at the end of this description**

We're looking for a mid-level Front End Web Developer, or as we like to call it, a Creative Coder, who can build a beautiful and highly functional web application.

You’ll be writing world-class, experience focused code for leading genomics applications.  You'll be using APIs (our own, and our partners) to create intriguing and interactive visual experiences to help consumers understand their DNA and how it impacts their lifestyle.

On a day to day basis, here's what you'll be doing:

- Collaborating with a world-class design and product management team to develop modern web apps that are accessible to a broad range of consumers

- Keeping up to date on industry trends and sharing examples of what we should be doing to improve our browser/device experiences.

- Writing Javascript, HTML, and CSS to make it happen

- Working with mobile and backend team (Python / Django, Google Cloud, Google SQL) to define our technology platform and APIs

- Testing your software

- Collaborating to explore and improve visual design in the execute product

- Evaluating data and customer feedback to figure out how to improve the product

- Working with scientific researchers to understand complex concepts in genomics which we will translate into experiences that everyday consumers can grok

Here's why you should do it:

- We are well funded and can offer meaningful equity, along with an amazing workplace, team, and benefits.  And of course cash.

- Our leadership team has a track record of big outcomes starting from early stage startups.

- We have an amazing office in RiNo, with amazing amenities:  gym access, premium free drinks and snacks on site, fast wifi and sweet technology.  You want a brand new Macbook?  Of course you do.

- It's early: help us build the team and the culture from the ground up

- Wait till you see our ice maker and cocktail glasses

- Our fridge is amazing, both for the beauty of it's glass doors and it's perpetually stocked premium drinks, from your favorite craft beer or wine, to those awesome Cold Brew coffee things with Almond milk.  The Califa farms ones.  So good.

Here's who you are:

- Experienced delivering at least 1 meaningful and complex consumer web application to production for commercial purposes, where you had overall responsibility for delivering (as part of a software dev team)

- Ideally you have 2-3 years of experience but you may have less, or more.  We don't have an environment to train a total beginner, but we also want someone early in their career who wants to grow with us.

- You'll be the go-to person for web front end so you need to be comfortable debugging / solving / grinding / Googling / StackOverflowing to solve problems.  We have smart folks who can help but you're the expert on all things Javascript.

- You love HTML5 animation, javascript and accurate character spacing.

- You have a solid understanding of client/server architectures, HTTP, oAuth

- You know how to make the tradeoffs between moving super fast to meet deadlines, applying abstraction, refactoring, taking the time to build for sustainability and extensibility...and when to just ram it home, ship it, and come back and fix it later. (there is a time and place for all of the above)

- You like to have a good time, and you enjoy being made fun of for that terrible shirt you wore last week.  We won't let you forget about it and you wouldn't have it any other way.  You can dish it out just as well.

- You are insanely curious and will spend 4 hours at night researching some obscure thing.  You are really starting to question whether we are living in a simulation, and you find the Fermi Paradox most perplexing.

- You often question your most deeply held beliefs and you find yourself constantly trying to understand the other side of the argument.  Sometimes you'll take it up, just to see if you can.

- You're a whiz with charts/graphs and you love awesome web visualizations and want to build them.

- You've used a ton of libraries ranging from graphing to oAuth to 3rd party JS SDKs that enable faster API integrations

- You understand that switching Javascript frameworks every 6 months is really taxing on the team and you're fine with committing to one for a bit.  React, Node, Angular, etc., its up to you to pick - but you're not religious about technology choices and realize that there are pros and cons to any of them, and the right craftswoman/man can make great products with almost any tech.
