Colorado’s biggest B2C Fundings

Colorado is known for its robust enterprise software and cloudware companies, but we thought B2C companies deserved some love. So we looked through our funding database for the first half of 2014’s and found the 10 highest funded consumer focused businesses.

Ibotta

As the number of storefronts, online and brick and mortar, continue to grow finding the best deals maybe more and more about tapping into a discount network, then signing up for any particular rewards program. With that in mind Ibotta is building a cash-back rewards program for shopping across brands. Ibotta users download the app and are rewarded the more they use it. The company likes to brag: “The best part about Ibotta is that you earn real money, not points or other made-up currencies.” 

Funding: $20 million, June 2014

Orbotix

Orbotix produces smart phone controlled ball-like toy-robots. The company is pioneering the connected play industry. As robot technology and mobile phones continue to cheapen and advance constantly, expect connected play to be a fascinating industry to watch. Already there are some impressive quad-copter toys available. It will be fun to see how Orbotix can transform robotics on the ground.

Founded in 2003 and with around 26 million monthly unique users Photobucket has been around the block a few times, but continues to be resilient. Whatever the company’s future plans they must have made a persuasive pitch to secure its latest $8.4 million round of capital.

TeamSnap

TeamSnap takes away the hastle of managing organized sports. An app for coordinating amateur sports teams, TeamSnap is working to tap into a huge part of American life. The app helps schedule practices, collect fees and coordinate rosters. By empowering coaches, athletes and parents the app may be able to make amateur sports feel a bit more professional. 

Funding: $7.53 million, January 2014

TonZof

Like the name says, TonZof is an e-commerce destination for tons of different tools, from electronics to automotive to home improvement. The e-commerce site comes originally from ToolKing.com.

Clip Interactive

If you hear a song on the radio you can use the Shazam app on your smart phone to recognize the artist and title. Clip Interactive takes it a step further by making the song recognition interactive. The company believes it can give a technology boost to old school radio by empowering radio stations to connect with their listeners via the app, while they broadcast.

Patheos

Online publisher Patheos is a website that centers its editorial content around religion and spirituality. The company describes itself as the “website of choice for the millions of people looking for credible and balanced information about religion” and has been around since 2008.

Tagwhat

Tagwhat is a location based deal engine. Based on your location Tagwhat alerts you in a feed of possible deals at local retailers. The app also has a publishing tool that allows web content such as articles or videos to be tethered to specific locations, thus enhancing the knowledge available about a physical location.

Funding: $1.35 million, January 2014

Bulb

Bulb is a free publishing app for classroom instruction and student portfolios. With no web design knowledge needed, Bulb helps teachers organize and publish their lessons online and it helps students share with their teacher and peers.

RxREVU is a prescription drug database company whose goal is to "organize the world's pharmaceutical data." The company is working on finding ways to save money on prescription drugs through sourcing clinically validated alternatives. Currently, the company is working closely with insurance companies to find prescription drugs savings.
